rims getting a lil rusty. was wondering what to do for this i was thinking a nice primer spray paint then some like silvery metal like stock or chrome spray paint. chrome stuff made the grab bar look nice. i just want a technique that will last.

when i painted the rims on my car i sanded them down good and put a few thin coats of etched primer, then a few thin coats of black with metal flake, 1 heavy coat, few thin coats of clear and called it good i had it like that for 2 months before some kid hit me and totaled my car.. sold the rims so not sure how there doing now but that's how i was told to do it so they last

thanks guys. im not thinking chrome would look very good since the only other chrome thing is my grabbar. maybe ill chrome my exhaust, but high temp chrome is hard to come by in these parts lol.ill try that fyi silver give all the rims a couple coats after an etched primer. ill post before and after pics eventually.

dullicolor silver brake caliper paint, I do my 70 and 90 engines with it and wheels, has ceramic in it and good to 500 degrees, almost a perfect match for the honda cloud silver, or what ever they call it, if you want a bit of glitter, I use duplicolor silver wheel paint, both paints stick like crazy.

thats exactly what i want, the silver wheel with a lil bit of the "glitter". can i paint them while theyre still mounted or would that be really stupid?

if you tape off everything, nuts, valve stem, thats what I have done. I have a 78 atc 90, it had about 10 hrs TOTAL TIME on it when I got it last year, The wheels had surface rust, didnt want to muff up the ohtsu tires taking them off, so I was real carefull to tape off everything, used scotch brite to knock down the rust, wiped it down with acetone, and put two super lite coats of the duplicoler wheel silver paint HWP101. i live in alaska, gone thru rivers, mud, rode it all last winter, been a year now, still looks like new

appreciate all your input. ive been wanting to do this for a while, if the paint doesnt hold up, then i will be taking it to the coaters, around where i am it will be about 105 dollars for the three. and i will have to dismount my brand new tires... so Saki, might use you down the road.

That's cool man.I'll beat anyones prices because I don't run out of a huge shop with tons of employees.(No big overhead)My shop's at my house.I do it full time. It's what pays my bills.lol.I'm actually in the middle of building an oven that's 6ft deep x 3ft wide x 3.5ft tall to start doing much bigger items.
If ya want check out my Facebook page it has some of my work on it.

I'm actually in the process of restoring my KLT 160 but had to put it on the back burner(Pics of it on here in my photo album) because of my workload and building my big oven.

If you can find it,look for Rustoleum silver wheel paint. It looks pretty good and holds up well.A little brighter than stock color. The chrome stuff doesn't hold up to good, alot of cleaners screw it up.Put it this way when a guy came to look at my 250SX wondered where I got the original color paint from.
