Hey guys, i was wondering if i could get some information from you all wether it be fact or opinion.
My blue and chrome 83R will be finished in the coming months and im already starting to plan my next build. :Bounce
To get somewhat of an idea of the unfarmiliar territory im considering venturing into, i.e: 3rd gen watercooled 250r's, i was hoping you could shed some light onto my situation so that i didnt get taken for a ride before my trike is even built. :wondering

My questions are...
What is an acceptable/expectant price to pay for...
a) an oem nos 86 rear fender in the box (the later release with the decal warning)
b) oem nos radiator shrouds for an 86R
and
c) an 86R seat in really good condition (no rips)

Also, has anyone ever built a 1986 ATC250R from mostly oem nos parts? ;);) Ive seen Mike from Vintage Motorsports work.:drool::drool:

A. I have seen OEM rear fenders on EBAY fetch $750 American.....I have paid less but that is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
B. OEM shrouds are still available.
C. Really good condition seats fetch upwards of $300-$350 on EBAY.

Yes I restored one with a pile of NOS parts, but those parts had been collected over a number of years and was prior to many of them being disco.

There are so many parts available on EBAY that it can be done but the size of the budget keeps getting bigger and bigger.

You can restore one with NOS parts but it takes great patience and checking ebay and craigslist several times a day to find good deals and hard to find parts. The last part is the easy part all it takes is... MONEY:D

I think I might have just stole a NOS rear fender for $475 off of ebay. I hope its as nice as he says it is. Never mounted but has been sitting in an attic for some years. We'll see.

your pretty much there with the important stuff, I have done several almost nos restorations on 86 250rs , but those days are becoming a dream as the little stuff is becoming all dried up , the 86 250r I built for Honda that is on display at the museum in Japan is by far the best one I have built that was my own bike and project that I had been collecting parts for over 10 years to build starting in the early 90s when everything was still avalible I think the only thing that wasnt NOS on that one was the frame . But the past few i have built i was able to restore almost every part back to brand new exept the plastic , I have access to some repro front brake hoses, handlebars etc if you need them PM me and I will set you up . very nice job also on your last R

Thanx Mike, im glad you and Mr Clean saw this thread because ive seen both your work and its very much along the lines of what im planning for this build. Not sure if the tank is NOS but i'll let you know tomorrow. My blue and chrome 83R isnt quite finished yet but i couldnt pass up the chance to buy these. Parts like these really deserve to be put on something special and not destroyed. Ive always dreamt of owning a nice 86R, in my opinion they look so good just the way they came from Honda. Finding one in Australia thats for sale is almost impossible and the prices of them are astronomical.

Check these out for example...

84 250R $5000

86 350X $9000
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....tchlink:top:en

83 250R $2500+
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-ATC...item27bc51f6ca

1985 ATC250R $3000

1986 ATC250R $5500
http://bunbury.freeadsaustralia.com/...ike-honda.html

I even looked into shipping one over here from there i want one so much but i think building one myself is better. Expensive but its only money.
A guy from around the corner from me just so happened to post an ad online for some Maier shrouds he was selling so i contacted him and asked him what else he had (i was hoping he had something good and didnt know its value... he had the goods but knew its value. lol) The seller turned out to be our friend Aussieduner.

Yeah im going to be building an '86 250R. Im going to be using as many NOS OEM parts as possible within reason. Ive thought this through and i believe i can get it to the stage of being a roller with plastics for around $3500 - $4500. Thats really good considering what trikes are selling for over here in Australia and it would be a wise investment because im sure i could recover my $$$ if i ever needed to sell it.

Then from the parts ive seen on ebay i can get nos oem parts for...

This is with shipping..
throttle 120
rear light 175
bars 100
pivot bolt 95
rear shock 400
chain slider 55
complete wiring harness 230
grips 50
switch block 110
toolkit 65
front shocks 375 plus shipping.
restoration quality engines for 1650 plus shipping
then ive estimated 100 for a frame plus 200 to ship to Australia (then i'll blast and powder coat it.
Similar plan with the swingarm. 250
axle 200
and 400 or so for wheels.

Well, thats the plan anyway. lol
Wether or not i keep it as OEM as im planning to is yet to be seen but i'll start a thread when i do get going on this build and i'll keep you all up to date.
