my 85 250sx i just got swingarm bearings, the side with the pivot bolt went on fine, the other side however i cannot get the bearings on the swingarm on the side with the drive shaft.
Like there is a lip on the piece that sticks out, and the bearings wont fit on it, Question does the bearing go on it, Or do i just stick the bearing in the singarm nexto to the race?

If you put the bearing in the freezer for a bit it will shrink a little and should help with it going in...

In this pic, it does look like your old bearing race is still in your way... Can you punch it out from the other side?

Ok yes i found out it is the old race, Nope cannot pound it out from teh other side
it doesnt catch on anything
, I did find out that the old half of the bearing was still on it, Thats why the bearing would go on the swingarm,

So its just now getting the old races out..
I tried drilling right down threw it, Like in the middle of the race, So maybe i could use brute force and get it out, But idk..

Any good way to get the old races out, other then punch it from the other side?
maybe cut it? then pry? idk wanted to ride today but it looks like i am not going ot be able to..

ok actually i am thinking, Its not a race, Its the outer ring of the old bearings?
Just very hard to cut, Idk i guess i will just have to hack at it, untill i cut threw it, i no know other options..

anyway,
Just gong to take a Hax saw blade and try cutting down threw it and pry it out, Any other ideas i will be glad to try,

Thanks Guys!! Maybe i can ride tomorrow,

Die grinder with a grinding stone and split in two.Or a compact sized slide hammer puller.

Dremel and a cutoff wheel... That outer piece of the bearing, is also considered a race... It will be hardened steel, and doubtful that a hacksaw blade will do anything to it....

Agreed^^^^

Straight die grinder would be faster. You would be surprised how fast a grinding stone would cut through it.All comes down to what is available to you.You can pick up a cheap straight die grinder at Harbor Freight and the stones, tappered works better.

It is the old race. I simply leave it in there, and use the new bearings, and leave the new race in the pack! Now that you're hacking,it is just simpler to pull the rear out to get at it. Good luck!

I'm with atc007, the only thing I see in there is the race. What looks like a ring around the outside I think is the flange on the frame that holds the seal in. I just changed the bearings on ours and used the old races so I didn't have to fight them, but if you have been hacking on them you will have to get them out. Good Luck.

Ok, How far would my Holder races go back?, Like the little aluminum Round plates,
I got bearings 2 Holder races. ( little aluminum Round plates, ) and 2 dust seals.

the bearings come in 3 pieces, the outside piece that slides right off my bearings, looks like that piece still in the swingarm// Is that what you guys are saying? Or did they use different kind of Holder Race (little aluminum Round plates)
Or is it the one half of the old bearings, Like i can take off that piece from the new bearings. and slide the rest into it, i didnt haxsaw it yet, Trying to go the smoothest route 1st.

I would imagine that the bearings go into the swingarm so that the end of the bearing is flush with the end of the swingarm? or does it go in about a half in.? my pics are showing up as little white boxes so idk, U have to right click and open image to view them

Do you own a book on this?? OEM? Clymer? anything?

Didn't I post in another thread and explain to you what to do with this or am I crazy?

It IS a race, it is an outer race and it gets knocked out from the other side or carefully cut and split. All races get buried against the shoulder in the frame, forget the tin caps existed unless you are replacing them.
