Just noticed what I had on the front end of the '85 Big Red I bought back in March '11. I was looking on the board here for Ohtsu tires and realized how they are getting rarer! I'm thinking of pulling this one off and saving it for a rainy day...

What do you guys think?

Just don't mess it up taking it off!! I believe you can still get the Dunlops that look the same from Honda, if you plan on riding it.

Does the same go for other Ohtsu tires too? I want OEM Pro Vector 301's for my SX, but Honda has superceded part numbers. They don't provide a picture of the replacement and have to be ordered blindly. I'm afraid they'll look like any generic knobby tire and I'll be stuck with it.

I have 2, 200x OEM rears never mounted,2 h-trak pro wedge2s never mounted, and the best, all 3, -1 front, -both rears, OEM Ohtsu not Dunlop for a 350x never mounted. All Ohtsu,, All like new. Not a bad collection huh?

I agree with flossy. I wouldn't even take that tire off the rim. Sometimes the bead can be so stuck to the rim u can ruin it getting it off. If it's been there long enough it's almost like sticky tar where it meets the rim. I would buy another rim then get the new Dunlop copy.

If you ride it than leave the tire on there.

What model is the Dunlop Copy? I looked on their website and could not find it...

Here is a pick of the tire tread

Where at? Do you have a website? Service Honda lists some tires for $67.34, but you don't know what you are getting...

Just let me know.

Thanks,

Bikebandit is where I got mine last year...3 new OHTSU for my 200m...exactly what you have on your BigRed...they get their tires drop-shipped from Honda, so I assume they would be the same you'd get from service Honda.

That's hopeful news. I wasn't willing to order anything sight unseen from Honda, but maybe they are correct.

After a little research, I don't believe Honda will send you a Dunlop replacement, only the OE OHTSU if available. I've successfully ordered these for my 85 200m (same tires as the 85-87 Big Red), 85 200x, and 86 350X (I got 86 250r rears), but all were OHTSU, so you should be OK, if Honda still lists them as available.

Thanks for the help. I'll check with them today and see what they can do.

i am so mad at myself. well i bought a 85 big red this spring, i tried getting the tires off to put new ones on and broke all the tires... then i realized they were the original tires!!! stupid homemade bead breaker. what would the original tires have been worth? they had about 30% tread only

Don't sweat it too much chuck...with only about 30%tread, they were pretty much worthless... depending on how much you ride and if they held air they wouldn't have lasted much longer.

well thats what i figured, but i just wasn't to sure because they were original. they weren't very good at all though, i got stuck trying to cross a ditch that everyone crosses with those tires. thats why i needed to get some new ones.. does anybody run carisle turf busters? i picked them up and they seem to be alright tires.

i do believe that tire is still available, and is the factory correct tire for the 250 bigreds only!!! the 200 series big red tires where the same size, but diff. tread pattern. and are no longer available. the 200m used the same size also but tread was different from both the bigreds. the m tread was the same as the "s" models if i'm not mistaken. i dont believe those are available either.

You're correct Aldo..the 200m tread was the same as the 200s but a larger tire, but Honda lists the 501s as the replacement for them, plus they ride the same as original 200m...stinks they don't still make that tire though...
