Hello, I been getting the itch to buy another 3 wheeler since i sold my 85 atc 250r to bigshott on the board here a while back. Not sure what to get. i have had alot of 250r's, blaster, quadzilla etc. A real good friend of mine has a Tri-z 85 (yellow and black) he said he would sell to me for 1000.00. It has new factor rear fenders, tires and he sandblasted, painted the frame and swing arm with factory yellow paint. He hasn't run it in a while, and believes the carb to be gummed up and may need a rear shock. He told me the ones off a warrior work. He said i could come out and ride it. I may be able to get it for less, but he was going to sell it in the paper for 1500.00 to anyone else. I been trying to do a lot of reasearch here on it. It would mainly be used for trail riding since my wife rides my 2008 brute force 750. Are they a reliable? He told me parts are hard to find for it. I believe they cant be as hard to find as a tecate. Whats the difference in years?
i saw 85 5 speed, and 86 6 speed?

Is 1k to much you think?> i will try to get pics to post.

Or should i hold out for an atc 250r again?

Thanks!

The clutch covers are known to crack. They are a little harder to find parts for then 250R, but i personally would buy one if i found a good a deal.

There was an 85 tri z for 1500 here that ran, and 250r's go for 2k all the time. 1000 dosnt sound too bad to clean the carb, and if u can get a shock for cheap go for it, but personally id run it with a bad shock, ive never ridden a suspended trike so it wouldnt matter to me :D

Yes, the warrior rear shock will bolt up but the resovoir bottle hose is shorter on the warrior shock. You could swap the hoses, but would have to have a shop do it. Otherwise, you can re-locate the resovoir to attach a little lower on the frame. A contoured piece of rubber, and a hose clamp did the trick for me on my Z. 1000 seems a bit high for one thats not ready to go. The other main differences between the 85 and 86 is color, 86 has bigger front forks, and re-located overflow bottle. If there was a 85 250r and 85 tri z for the same price, I would grab the R. The tri z is not a bad bike at all though, and parts are not extremely hard to come by.

Well here are some pics. Sorry for them being dark but it was at night. My buddy said he would sell it to me for $800.00. As long as if i decided to sell it later he could buy it back.
New tires all the way around, new factory rear plastic. Front and side fin plastics are like new. All stock. Has new holeshot rear tires. Seat has no rips. Frame sand blasted and painted.

He told me he thinks the front forks need to be rebuilt. (seals). And he said something about a fuel pump. He said it runs fine as long as the fuel stays above a half a tank.
I think he mentioned it had two fuel pumps. Only thing is it has a twist throttle. I want a thumb throtlle ::)

Can someone fill me in on this fuel pump issue? can they be rebuilt? parts hard to get?

Thanks!

ya want a thumb throttle? put one on. i used a polaris thumb throttle on my 81 250r most of the time ya need to shorten the cable core but any decent atv shop can do that if ya need it. 800 sounds like a deal, id offer $600 but then i am a cheap trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailpro lol....
