Hi, im looking into getting a kawasaki tecate, and was wondering what some key things are to look for on it. Is $1000 a good deal or bad deal? What are re-occuring issues with the things? Sorry, i dont have much information on it yet.

fly wheel, stator are the main issues.bolt check for every ride as they tend to shake a bit. locktite and a bolt kit are essential. but if you want a fun and wild ride get it. if its the one in anchorage jump on it that one looks real clean

NEED pics to tell you further. $1000 for what? A broken down non running POS? A mint showroom bike?
Once you get the flywheel, stator, and lighting coil sorted out with something from Ricky Stator, then they run like tanks, BOMB proof.

Also pay close attention to the condition of the intake boot, the rubber boot between carb and jug.
For some reason they tend to crack and if in poor condition will suck in air and make for a lean condition that will ruin the top end in short order.
They are long ago discontinued but are available as a O.E.M. reproduction for about 55 dollars
PM me if you end up needing one and I will help you to locate it :)

pretty solid machines. the biggest problem with them is the magnets come off the inside of the flywheel and can destroy the stator or even the left case. and the intake boot as mentioned by jeswinehart I think he could also help you with the flywheel so you would have to ever worry about it. also the shifters can be an issue if someone was running it loose. It will strip the splines on the shifter or shift shaft or both shifter is also discontinued but I could help with one if needed. as with any high performace 2 stroke its always a good idea to freshen the top end. it's alot cheaper than waiting for it to fail
