New to Yamaha

126417126418126419126420I have a ytm 225 or 250. Not sure what year or size. I got no paperwork with it. It runs but idles really high. I tried messin with the carb to adjust the idle but had no luck. Do I need a rebuild kit? Bent Bike in Washington here says they can't get anything for it.

When it comes to trikes like ours, you are pretty much on your own. I would completely disassemble and clean the carb paying special attention to making sure all the jets are clear and the pathways in the carb are clear. There is an excellent post by Dirtcrasher that gives the basics. if you are mechanically inclined, you can redo the carb with no problem.

Double check that the throttle cable isn't tightened to much because regardless of moving the idle screw it will stay high if thats the problem

it is definitely a ytm 200 check to see if it is chain driven or shaft, also babbits sport center online can get you alot of what you might need. I would hold off on the carb kit till after you have went through it completely. Once you have opened it up and looked it over you will have a good idea if you need a kit or not pay special attention to the float needle and it's rubber tip also make sure the w clip on the slide is there and holding the main needle. there is a repair manual for you to use and download in the world class help section.

I will try checking the throttle cable. I remember tightening it pretty good, maybe too much. The rest of the carb looks pretty good. Chain driven.

No luck now it is stuck wide open no matter what I do.
