So I've been given a 225DX that's been sitting for years and i'd like to get it up to par. The carb seems to be in bad shape. I spent a couple hours cleaning it out and it doesn't seem to want to give the right fuel/air mixture. I'm still a noob at adjusting jets and whatnot but i was wondering if i could get some insight on one aspect of the carb.

There's a choke that i can pull that runs a cable to the carb. The cable itself works fine, as tension increases when pulled on... but how can i tell if that needle is working? How do i know it is not stuck? I ask because there seems to be no change in the idle or acoustics when turning the choke on/off.

TIA

there is a starter jet in the float bowl that you will need to clean, looking at the bowl with the notch in the bowl facing towards you and off of the carb there will be a hole on the left hand side way deep in there is the starter jet. If that doesn't do it look for cracks on your intake boot, and also make sure to pull all of your jets and clean them very well one other thing might be that the cable is too far stretched to actually be engaging the choke for you there is an adjustment area, but I had one that snapped the cable on me, from age.

You should check to make sure there isnt any blockage in the intake that runs threw the frame. Thats one on the most common problem I see when I pick up a trike thats been sitting awhile. Mud dobbers and mice nest will choke off your air flow. I'd start by checking that.

Thanks for the replies. Intake boot is cracked to high hell and that was ordered yesterday. I was curious about mice since i found a stockpile of nuts and other foods in the air cabin, but found no other problems. the boot that goes to air intake is clear.

as far as cleaning them goes, i remember checkin this site out a while ago on a similar topic and someone suggested that for tough jobs like this it may require being immersed in a solution like overnight. do you know what solution that would be?
