I just picked up a 1985 ATC 250SX last weekend, i traded an old yamaha atv for it. it has racks on the front and back. it starts really easy and runs/idles great. I am currently trying to locate parts for it for now until I get the $$$$ to start working on it. right now it needs a new or good used airfilter that is not falling apart. i opened the rear end up yesterday to find mud and water in the diff. I cleaned/flushed it out and put 80w90 hypoid gear oil in it. it seems to be fine for now. I also could use a right rear rim as the one that is on it, it bent really bad and the tire wont hold air because of it. it could use a new front fender and rear fenders. if any of you guys have any of these parts, please pm me or email me at ridered@tds.net

thanks

A friend of mine has an 85 parts bike. LEt me know what all you need and i will have him take a look at what he has and the condition. I know that he does not have good plastics, but may have alot of other stuff.

Yeah, change the gear oil a couple times.
It's only 3 point 3 ounces, right? Like 1/2 a coffee cup.

Sometimes you can straighten wheels IF it's worth taking the ire off.

I had almost the same identical deal for a couple hundred$$

but wound up getting a whole parts bike with new looking plastics
and a clean tank for 100$.

Some dealership disassembled the engine stating the flywheel was bad
but they really stole the ignition and lighting coils from
under the flywheel.
The flywheel was perfect and the trike looks new...so sad.

I really don't mind the overpainted ones.

For me, I think it makes them theftproof ugly.

People will walk up to mine and then turn away when they
get within 20 feet or so.

Have fun with yours.
I also usually drip some mystery oil down the choke cable to keep that
enrichment piston from seizing up.

drjoe171 thanks for the info. yes i think the overpaint makes it look theftproof lol... where i live we really dont have to worry about theft. I do plan on restoring the 250SX in the near future. and that is sad on the trike that was taken apart for the coils. the things it needs are front and rear fenders, could use a tank, it needs brake cables and brakes. it runs great and doesnt smoke at all. i plan on changing the oil soon tho.

yes it is. I just rode it earlier after airing the right rear tire up. i got a rag wrapped around the airfilter housing to try to keep dirt out of the engine.... i need to get a new airfilter soon.

For the fenders just use paint remover I used that for anset of fenders that were blue and they looked great after! The front fender looks to be great shape after cleaned up!!!

ok thanks, I will give that a try. the fenders are cracked all the way across the rt rear fender and it kinda looks bad so maybe i can find some good used fenders soon

the front rack and whats left of the gun holder is no longer on the ATC. i also took off the vertical piece on the back rack(look at the pic). it looks a lot better. I rode it for a good ways today and it does have a pretty good amount of hesitation when acclerating. I think that its probably the carb has some trash in it, but it will be a while before I get around to taking the carb off for cleaning as it has other things that need attention more than the carb at the moment.
