OK... This stinking axle nut...

How do I get the OEM axle nuts to stay in place? I've smacked the first one as hard as I could and then smacked the 2nd one up as tight as I could get it to the first. Took a 45 minute ride tonight, and when I got back, there were loose! Will some thread lock work on these or so I just spring for an aftermarket locking one? I searched high and low for these OEM's and was happy to find them new.... now I don't know... HELP!!

What's with the "smacking"? I usually use wrenches. The first one goes on snug, then you put a wrench on each one and tighten them in opposite directions against one another.

No wrench, just using a stout screw driver in the slots..... I know I know.. use the right tool.. but it's all I have right now...
