Hey guys, I'm considering putting a cb400t (twin) engine and tranny into an atc 200 frame. I was just wondering if anyone here has done something similar and could give me some insight. The cb 400 engine is air-cooled and has the tranny in the engine case like an atc setup. With some frame tweaking I think it will fit nicely, although the cb uses the wider 530 chain I think some custom made sprockets can solve that issue easily. Would love to hear some opinions and constructive critisisms as to issues I may be overlooking. I hope to end up with a mud conquering monster that I think I'll call an ATC 400T.

A 350X frame might be better suited for that. U could put in gussetts before u drop the motor in. Just a thought.
Seems like it would be cool. I'd love to c it all done nice and clean.

Any time you are putting a more powerful motor in any off road toy i recommend gusseting the frame. There is going to be much more stress on it.

Gussets... Very good point. Thank you. 350x frame... wish I had one, but I'm workin' with the junk I got in the back yard. This bike will not be pretty. As cleanly and safely built as possible, yes. Pretty, not so much. Should still look better than my bro's klt 200 tho. Damn, those things are ugly.

AW c'mon now, with the small teaser pics. That sounds like an intersting build, is there a thread I missed?

The X frames have the center verticle down tubes that lean forward and have to be cut out and leaned back to clear the engine and carbs. This changes the entire frame geometry and cannot be overcome with all the gussetting in the world. The R frames have the center verticle down tubes that lean back, kinda like a cradle and is way better suited for this swap.
I ran stock cb350 front sprockets and stock 200x rear sprockets and never had an issue with the chain. The weak parts were basically the 200x bushings & bearings would not last with that type of power and weight. It ran 70mph and would wheely in 3 gears. The front downtube and belly was CB350 motorcycle and it was grafted to the X at the swingarm bolt. The dogbone was removed from the swingarm and a custom replacement was made to gain some ground clearance.
It was overall an awesome trike, I just wish I would have started with a later model R.
