it this repairable or do i have to buy a new gear? i was thinking of welding the chucking back in and re cutting the gear? will this work? also is the case repairable i know i can weld it but will it be a good solid fix or just something that might work? i know the case could warp from being welded.

Agreed... The gear is hardened, the weld wont be... The case can be salvaged.

The case be TIG welded, but it is cast Alum and could recrack. Cast Alum is kinda unpredictable that way, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

the only proper way to repair a gear like that is to remove the busted splines and add in new ones in by drilling and tapping through them and screw them into the main gear which for what you are wanting to do is cheaper to replace it, and probably quicker to replace, and also replacing the splines is not an easy chore have done it to repair a 25,00$ hollow spindle main headstock gear.
