I have a 86 Tri and I want to put the 85 snorkal/airbox on the 86. (trying to mount coolant bottle under seat, to clean up the look of it).... I compared the two and the airflow diameter looks bigger on the 86, will that make it starve for air? should I just take the lid off the air box? I also noticed on the 85 a hose that runs from the carb to snorkal, should I use the 85 carb? Maybe Im just being to picky I just don't like that coolant where its mounted on the 86. Any help would be much appreciated.

The '86 snorkal is a better design, siick with it.John Swineheart was making new overflow bottles,or run without it.

Well he was making them for the Tecate ,but maybe he could make them for the Z.

85 is actually the superior design. If you run a BIG carb, 86 design creates a few problems.
Small carbs don't care either way....
I say go with the big mouth and holler..... GIT IT!!

eather one is fine,, I prefer the 85 alot easer to get in and out when Jetting.. if you run any aftermarket carb .. you will not notice a difference. and I zip a screw in that little hose nipple.. or a short hose with a screw in it.

Good info Thanx guys, I guess I need to save some $ and get another carb before I switch it out. I'll prob go with the bigger carb with the 85 air kit when its all said in done. I'll just cap off that hole in the snorkal I guess. Thanx again guys
