As most of you know my 350X is now a 400X, everything is brand new including a Barnett Clutch. Sunday I got to ride it for the first time & the clutch started slipping after about 30 minutes of riding & continued to get worse! Today is removed the clutch cover to find fine metal shavings! What do I do, I have never had a Barnett Clutch fail before.

yikes, can you tell where are the metal shavings are from? is that just the standard fiber clutch kit? what is the condition of the discs?

I would buy an OEM clutch. My personal opinion from what I've read, people with argue with you left and right on here and try to persuade you how this clutch is better than oem and that clutch is just as good as oem so why spend the extra. If you just bought oem you probably wouldn't be having this problem. My personal opinion again is I stick with OEM for piece of mind more than anything (especially with clutch parts).

Did you break the new clutch in? If not, that could be your problem right there. You really should baby the bike for quite a few miles before you go crazy with slipping the clutch and popping wheelies.

Yep, OEM all the way. I just rebuilt a 225dx clutch and she is beautiful. Haven't ridden it all that much so I'm still in the break-in phase. I feel good knowing that I have quality parts in there. It may have cost me a few bucks more, but so what. I really like 3 wheelers so it is worth it to me! To each their own!

There are only 3 clutch options for the 350x that I know of:

OEM

Barnett

EBC

Once barnetts slip they normally wont recover.

OEM will, and are the best choise IMO but dont forget HD springs.

So can I use the OEM plates with the Barnett Springs?

SWIGIN

sure....why not?

Those springs have no idea what plates are being used.

One more stupid question, can I use the Barnett steel plates (if they are not damaged) with the OEM friction plates?

so I just the clutch out & everything looks to be ok, what else could make the clutch slip?

If your clutch discs are oil bath do not forget to soak them in fresh oil over night. Also, maybe try running the Honda GN4 oil. I run yamalube and love it ( I have a yamaha). Just a suggestion. I do not want to start an oil war as when anyone makes an oil suggestion its ww3.

Get the honda oil :)

If it slipped they are glazed.

Use whatever steels you like but I'd rough them up with sandpaper.
