Master Link Chain Question. Atc 125m

Today i was getting my 125 ready for a trip to the ganny, did brakes, checked cables, lubed everything, changed the oil... etc..

Then i decided to take a look at my chain, and what do i find!! A damn crack halfway through the master link on the chain, lucky i caught that before i broke down in the middle of the ganny!

So anyway, i was wondering if any Master link will work...

The chain is 428 92.. so that means that any 428 O ring Master link will work? Correct?
Just double checking before i go buy one tomorrow.

Royal Distributing has a DID 428 Std, and a DID 428 O-ring Master Links. Will the O ring Master link work with the Original atc 125m chain?

O ring links are wider, is your chain o-ring or just a plain chain?? I have never seen a master crack, got a pic?? was the clip on it??

See how the space between the orings on the master link is bigger than the rest? It causes my chain to ride up on the sprocket in that spot. And makes an unpleasant noise.

its bent to. I think it maybe time for a new master maybe a chain if you got the money. oh and see you at the ganny lol

Yeah yeah, its bent all to hell! Jumped off the sprocket a few months ago and bent it, straightened it out enough to ride. Didnt make any noise. Untill now...

Yeah, i would just take the chain off the now siezed Beater 125 i have, but thats 2 hours away, and i don't feel like driving that far after work..
Called royal, smallest they could get me was a 428 120. And i don't have the tool to take links off.

If not just go to lowes or somewhere and pick up a cheap file and punch. Filings more time consuming but itll get the job done.

any shop I go to would shorten for free. but then again you guys pay how much for fuel now? thought it was bad here

I've seen a master link snap(a few months old too!), that was on my buddys polaris 400l though. I've always used my dremel and a hammer to shorten chains down.

A tip on your lubricant. Unless you have a full chain guard, avoid any oils/greases. Youll want to use a dry lube, such as teflon.
Oil and grease attract dirt. The dirt gets stuck and actualy wears the chain out way faster than you would image. Grease/oil is better than nothing, but a dry lube is your best friend.

RubberSalt: I have a full chain guard, i usually don't use this lube, but i am in my garage at home, not my garage at my cottage.
I guess its easier than i though to shorten a chain, thanks for the info.
