yep they are around, you just gotta watch ebay and craigslist, or make your own... I always wanted to have one that sat under the tire, that way it could be removed for the ride home on the road

back in Dec. i had posted in the CL section about one i found locally. it's the kind you strap to the tire and it's the only one i've seen personally. the guy wanted more than i could offer, too bad it's been scraped now. :( atleast i grabbed the pics.

That doesn't look like something that would be to hard to make. I have a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro ton of stainless steel sheets in the barn....hmmmmm.

I guess you would loose the function of front brakes with this.... Also i would think that if you straped it to the front wheel and rode a wheelie or got the front tire in the air, the unbalanced weight from the ski mounted on the tire would cause the tire to roll which would shift the direction of ski... Instead of it being level i think it could turn vertical and point straight at the ground and would dig in the snow when the front end came back down and cause you to have a major wreck ( could possibly flip you over the the handlebars)...
In my opinion a fork mounted ski would be best, you could make springs coming off your forks to control the kick-up of the ski and keep it nice and level. you could tackle inclines better this way

you could probably find one faster than i can make it by figuring it out, trial and error etc. Plus I have work 11 hrs a day so.

You could easily put limiters on it to keep it from going anywhere you don't want it to go.

If you have a front brake you could also lock the brake on. This would prevent the tire from moving

I have a ski set up here in the house somewhere. I never have even taken it out of the wrapping that it was sent to me in and that was several years ago. Yeah, I have issues. LOL

Back in the day...................... Way upstate NY about 1986 in HS shop class I build a front ski for my Honda 200. I like mentioned above thought leaving the wheel on and straping the ski to the wheel was the way to go. It worked.... kinda..... The bulk and weight of the tire and rim take away from the over all performance of the project. Because what is it you are trying to acomplish?
Floatation and less friction over the snow so the back wheels have to work less and power you "over" the snow, no through it.
So on my second atempt I did this. Take the whole front assembly off the front forks and find a way to mount solid on the forks. Then make a pivot point near the ski like a snowmobile. whala done. you don't need front brakes, the rears will do just fine. this made my trike glide a million percent better over the snow and looked a hell of alot cooler too. Just the opinion from an old fat guy.

how far upstate??? im way upstate NY.
also i think if u r using the ski front end and in the snow or ice, u might not be doing too many wheelies anyway.

one of the yards we used to cut through when I was young had an old honda with a ski on the front. not positive but I think it was a 110. no tire looked like a modded snowmobile ski. this was 20-25 years ago so details are a lil fuzzy. would almost bet its still there

I will check it out next time I'm out that way. what are you planning to do for traction in the rear? with the added drag from a ski on the front it will likely just spin on the ice. Think your best bet would be to put screws in all the tires and screw the ski
