I just got my old 250's and Tiger 500 back. There are a lot of problems to fix. The front and rear brakes, the fuel petcocks, rear Fox shocks, front forks and other general repairs. Anybody that knows where to get parts and how-to's answers to questions would be greatly appreciated.

Ya just gotta love Tiger parts. Are those extra parts, or parts that you need for your Tigers? I don't see the trikes, or your frame parts at least. Quit teasing and show the good stuff. LOL

I'm not sure how I'll ever recover from the blow you just dealt my self esteem...

You do realize that having three of those puts you at risk of running afoul of the antitrust laws ...;)

I can help you out with that:D

One of those 250's would look really good in the garage lined up next to the 250r and KXt250:D

Very nice condition those are in as well.

Nice Tigers. The fox shocks can be rebuilt, no biggie there. I did see a nos brake disc in your parts pics. And of course I hope to see some more detailed pics of the 500. I've only seen my 500 in person, and it's sort of a Frankenstein Tiger. I would really like to see pics of the 500 without the rear fenders on. I'm interested in the rear grab bar. I don't have an original one and I need to get something fabbed up to at least be close to original. I am curious if the 250 and 500 rear grab bars are the same basic dimensions? If they are, then I could copy the one off of my 250, but I also need to know how the 500 only uprigt comes off the grab bar. How high and how far back on the grab bar. Be glad I don't live anywhere near you. I'd be knocking on your door with a pencil, notebook and a tape measure and my digital camera. LOL And you have to give us some history on your Tigers as well. I'm always up for a good story. Thanks for the pics. I always dig Tiger pics of any kind.

Awesome! Verrrry Nice! Glad I could help out.
Nice stash of bikes and nice parts too! I like you already! hehe
Hey pat, About that upright on the rear fenders you are talking about,
I asked Craig Corda about that and he said that was something he added to his for desert racing to re-enforce the
rear fenders. So as far as I know it isnt stock.
If you need anymore help let us know.
Heres a pic of mine. :D

SWEET! I'm particularly loving the 500. Does anyone know how many 500s exist today?

Vealmonkey
05-26-2011, 07:16 PM
From what OC wrote, there were 15 frames made and 10 500s sold. Now one or 2 of those unsold frames have been accounted for as well as 5 or 6 500s. But OC may have new information concerning all that, but that is what I last read.

Ok Vealmonkey asked for a little of the story. My dad owned these trikes in 1985 and sold them to a very good friend in CA. They rode them at the river and took real good care of them as best possible any way. We were a Tiger dealer for a brief time. In that time my best friend rode and raced one of the 250's and I raced the 200 for our team (pictures included). We started developing a new trike with some cool features (picture also included) that my friend incorporated into it. The Tiger owner and Mickey came out here for a few days and we got to spar so to speak with Mickey on our little track. WOW he was fast. My riding style changed a great deal after studying his style. I have a funny story about Mickey's visit and if any one here talks to him please ask him about his trip to the desert in West Texas. My dad still has the prototype and my old 200 along with the Super 4 that I was going to ride for our team they are in very poor shape I'm sad to say. We have loved the Tigers for many years and I'm sure this love affair will continue with my son (11 years old) who can't wait to tear down and restore then ride the Tigers.

I one with the break on the engine and the wide swingarm, is that a Tiger swinger or is that one of the modified one you were talking about? I would think that the axle would be much less likely to bend with so little of it unsupported. Was at a MX set-up, with jumping in mind?

The ATK 406 dirtbike motor was a Rotax motor and had the rear brake on the countershaft.

The ATK 406 dirtbike motor was a Rotax motor and had the rear brake on the countershaft.

The early ATK 406's were like that, the later models moved the brake back to the rear wheel, I think because of the additional stress on the chain and that if you did loose the chain the brake went as well

Here is a video of the first Tiger coming to life again. HondaHarry gave me the links to where I could get the petcock and grommet. The brakes didn't make it today that got stuck in KY on UPS plane. But I still had to go for a ride without brakes. I must say the old girl still feels just like she did in 1985.

IIRC, Veal has 1 complete tiger 500, and another frame. There were definantly more than just two made, just not MANY more.

Vealmonkey, have you looked at grab bars at PRM. I used a standard grab bar for an 85-86 250r and with a few mods it bolts right on. Looks great too! As far as the upright location i don't know. I never had rear fenders so I cut and modified 350x rears to fit.

Peter it's good to hear from you after all these years. Hope all is well. I purchased all of the trikes and parts from one of our friends in California. He purchased the trikes only from us and later purchased several parts to support them I'm guessing. I got all of it as a packaged deal.
