124639124640124641124642124643Hi, Thought I would share my new project. I have always loved the looks of the 86-87 Tecate and now after 10 years I am finally starting to build one. I am calling it rideable tecate as parts for these machines are insane and most people are scared to ride them in fear of breaking something and having to break out their wallet to repair. In pics are the parts I have gathered and I will try to list what plans I have. I am hoping to be completed with this project by next spring. Also I rarely ever see a complete polsihed custom Tecate like I see 250r's. The goal is to keep a stock looking Tecate but use easy to get parts if needs replacement.

Here we go,

Suspension:
I will be running a set of 00 cr125 inverted forks for an updated front suspension. I will also be running a front hub off a 250r. Rear shock I will be running an Lt250 Shock for ease of rebuilding and modifing purposes.

Engine:
I am either going to run a stock bore Ported Cylinder or a 330 big bore kit. Motor will be polished. Planning on running a cool head. I will be doing a Jemco Exhaust Pipe also V-Force Reeds & a 39.5mm Flat slide carb. Barnett Clutch.

Rear Drive Terrain:
I am having a custom Plus 4 Chromely swingarm built to use a 400ex rear axle carrier. I will be running a +2 400ex axle and ex hubs.

Others:

I am having a custom Aluminum gas tank built as I cant stand the looks (non matching to other plastics) of the factory tank. I will most likely just polish the tank to break up the green.

Right now the parts I have on the way or being built is the Swingarm, Triple Trees, Axle, Carrier.

The pic with the two Tecates with the Aluminum tank is not mine but shows what the tank will look like.

The tecate that the aluminum tank is on is not mine. He is a member here and lives here in Washington. He hooked me up with the guy that custom built his. I have talked to the builder and I am having one built when the trike gets closer to being done.

ya mind me asking what the cost of having one of them made up is because man that type of tank would be a greif saver

A lot! was told as much as a grand maybe a few hundred less. At the price of what old nice looking tecate tanks sell for I dont think the extra $$ is that bad.

you are exactly right there there i was shocked at what there bringing in for even being faded and banged up, the extra money for one that will out last any of the plastic ones is worth all the mula.

126331126332126333So I have got more parts and some progress since I posted last. I got some parts from Shawn (slt500r) and they are AWESOME! Great work, very nice pieces, I highly recommend. Also I sand blasted the frame as it needs some welding work as it has cracks. Alos some brackets are rusted away so I am pre-building it to see what repairs I need to do.

Also a couple of change in plans. I found out that PWR will make a set of radiators for my Tecate so the stock ones will most likely be replaced with brand new PWR's. I went head and I got a rear shock off a 86 tecate that I will run for now as it is not blown.

Any suggestions are also welcome.

Thanks
Tyler

I'm excited about this build. I commend you on your rider build. I just talked to a buddy and told him I appreciate him doing an oem 87' with all the correct parts, but mine are for riding and would rather go with new aftermarket parts, we put many hours every week on our trikes and alot of maintenance and upkeep. I'd hate to see all the nice trikes just to look at, I want to ride with folks and look at these nice trike while we're flying down a trail. Thanks for the build.
