View Full Version : Another 250r vs 350x question for the guys...

Hi guys, I need to ask more questions as I have been struggling with the choice of my next trike.
My issue is with my size. At 6'3" and 230lbs I find the small chassis of my 250SX a bit limiting. My knees hit the handle bars and the seat to peg distance is a bit small on those longer rides..
I really liked the input you guys gave and I think I am settled on the 350x for my next trike and I may have found a really nice one close by.
Problem is the spec sheet on the 3wheeler website says the 350x has the exact same seat height as the 250SX. Also that the gross weight of the 350x is about 30lbs lighter than the 250sx.
I see the 250r is about 30 inches and if I want a taller ride I may have to go with the 2 stroke.
Are these specs correct? I really expected the 350x to be bigger? Also how could the weight of the 350x be lighter?
The 350x is lighter than the 250sx because its not shaft drive. Just a simple swinger and chain.

SX' are pretty good sized trikes already, but I'd go with a 350X.
The early model R's were tiny, much much smaller than your SX, the bigger ones are also the most expensive when it comes to R's, where the X's were pretty good sized in both years.

Ok I get the weight thing..guess I didn't think of that..
But is the 350x taller??

Honestly, I'm not positive, but I'd bet that the SX is taller, due to it being based off of the 250es.

I'm 6'2" and ride both 250SX and 350X. I prefer the 350X for the larger suspension "travel" and the ability to tighten up the suspension as I weigh more than I should! Okay, what about moving your handle bars forward? That should seem reasonable with longer arms and give you more room between the foot pegs and grips. Also you could buy aftermarket bars I believe that are taller. Someone else could chime in on that. My 350X looks better with me on it than the 250SX but both good bikes!

The seat height for a 250SX is 27.8 in (1986), and the 350X is the same, 27.8 in (1986). Hope this helps!

So the next big question???
If I already own a 250SX.....
Is it worth my while to buy a 350X? Is it really that much cooler????
Or should I buy a 250r??

I prefer a 350X compared to an R. For a bigger(rounder) guy it would be nice. I could see the huge torque of an X doing better than the two stroke.
X's are fun, they are serious powerhouses, and are normally alot more bulletproof.

Im about the same size as you and I never let that stop me from riding any of my wheelers from a atc90 on up to my 350x. I feel that the 350x feels alot "roomier" than a 250sx and there is no comparison in power the 350 pulls hard! It all comes down to what U want go check some out and ride them and let that be what changes your mind. OR collect the whole set

Ha..ha..........you will step into a whole new world with a 350x vs a 250sx. Nothing there to compare. Get it. Or get the 250r? Totally different bikes. My wife rides a 250sx......lol......lol........Ya know what I'm sayin? A 350x will do anything you want it to on any trail and is pretty decent on the motorcross end as well. Not a "R" by any means on a mx track but look out on the hills man...........good luck

Absolutely the X! I have them all,the R's will cramp you! You will NEVER be sorry with an ATC 350X!

I wonder if anyone has checked to see how the footpeg location on the SX vs. X is as far as distance . I swear my X is more stretched out than the SX . I really like the X . I think the biggest question is where / how you ride . Woods riding is fun on both but not having to clutch a SX is nice . I like the X in the woods because of weight and much better suspension if you like riding fast . I don't think you will regret buying an X ; I now ride mine more than the SX . As far as the R goes I feel it has a more compact riding position than the X . I'm 5' 8" so I'm nowhere near as tall as you ; I have a long torso but short legs so that's what my opinion is based on .

Best answer in the whole thread!!! :)
Seat height isnt the overall metric to judge a wheeler by. The 250sx and 350x are perfect examples. They have the same stock seat height, but the 2 machines couldnt be more different. The 350 is longer, wider and MUCH more powerfull and sporty. IMHO, the 350x is more closely related to the 250r as far as intended use.
250r v 350x though, hmm... thats a tough one. If you want to just put gas in and go with regular oil changes get the x. Although not quite as quick and race bred as the r, its no slouch and is more user friendly. If you like to hammer the throttle all the time, and want a more race tuned chassis and suspension package, get the r...

Well guys, helpful as always. I guess I will start with test ride of the 350x to feel it out.
Also, as it happens there is a 200x in the same area as the guy selling the 350x..I might just grab that one also just for giggles. They seem to be pretty cheap in this area..2 or 3 of them on craigslist within 1/2 drive of Detroit around the $500 range.
I probably will get 'the whole set' eventually, just trying to figure out the best angle of attack while I build the fleet.
Thanks again guys..great advice!!!
