Here's some pictures of our ride on Sunday. Xfile, Pipeline triker, our friend Mike, and I had a great time on our first ride of the year. Spent most of the time in the sand but did some trail riding also. Hope to have a few more people along for the next ride.

I'm still pissed that I didn't make it out there with the tri-z....good thing I brought my X for backup. I found the problem when I got home, so easy to fix it made me wanna kick my own ass. Off topic: I'm really getting old and bald! Stop taking pictures of me..Joke.

pipeline road is perfectly legal, it's part of the dusty trails system.

Unfortunately for me I work every Saturday and it's very hard to get that day off so I will more than likely be going on a Sunday or Monday. I probably won't be going again for a few weeks but when we get another ride together we'll let you know ahead of time. It was pretty nice conditions for the most part but even some of the sandy areas were totally covered with water.

Nice pics, thanks for putting them up. We will for sure have a few rides this summer. this one was smaller since I had 2 deaths in the family the last few weeks and did not have the time to get everything together. Trails opened on Sunday that is why the first ride was on a Sunday and not a sat. We will be doing some on Sundays this year. It is kinda wet out there and it is snowing here right now.

Well it is getting to be that time of year again. the atv trails here just closed last week for the winter, lack of snow kept them open, got some extra ridding in this year.
The date has been set for the first big ride, May 12th, it is a Sat. i will make a post on it later but wanted to let everyone know plenty in advance. Everyone is welcome to join. If you do not have a trike but enjoy them and only have a 4 wheeler you are also welcomed. there has been at least one 4 wheeler every year for the first ride. There will also be a large cookout at my place around noon.

man, i wish we had places like that around here. all the land is private, so the only places to ride are the dirt roads. it gets pretty boring after ridin for about 20 minutes

barring some catastrophe, i WILL make it this time!!:Bounce:Bounce there was some talk about a group ride in a different thread recently and i thought about starting a new one, but figured i'd wait to see if you were going to again.

i'll hafta talk the wife into riding the sx, more trikes the better :TrikesOwn

do you guys plan on heading to the crossroads and back, or just mess around on pipeline?

Stevens point is Just over an hour from my place. Where we all goes depends on the wheather and what trikes we have along. Jpagels tecate is bad on gas and I may take my 250R so that means more gas. Also depends on how wet it is. Either way it is a great kick off for the riding season.

I would like to try to make it, what is Wisconsin's policy for permits as I'm a FISH :) And what about age requirements, my Daughter is 11 and I would like to bring her 300EX as well as my 350X and my wife can ride the 250sx or her 300EX. She is going to be enrolled in a saftey class in April. If it is any deal at all with out of state machines I could register them in McNaughton as my FIL has a place up there.

you should be able to find out of state registration info here: http://dnr.wi.gov/

wisconsin does require out of state registration, i think it's $ 15-20 for a year. as far as age, it goes like this: up to age 12, kids can only ride machines up to 90cc. at 12 (course can actually be taken at 11) they can take a safety course, after which there is no restriction on machine size:crazy:

i don't know how the age restrictions would be handled for out of staters, though. maybe the dnr website has a link where you ca email questions.

by the way, wtf is a FISH?? is that like a FIB??

Keep us posted on this. I'm in Sheboygan and would be willing to head your way to ride opening weekend, sounds like a good crew! It's either there or I head to the north west part of the state. I'd be on the 200x.

My bad Wisconsinite... I didn't see that you post the DNR's link already.

We are from Eau Claire so if we do make it out we'd basically take Hwy 29 straight to Wausau then a bunch of county roads til we get to a meeting spot. We have to find the wife a pink helmet that fits her also.

I have to get her clutch gremlins figured out and get her machine registered. I want to get my 200s front end conversion done in the next few weekends too. That is if overtime allows the purchasing of parts. I doubt I would even get a chance to start her 200s front end conversion til next year. LOL.

It would be great to make Wisconsin rides a regular thing. Or even a campout weekend at a local ATV friendly campground. I know there is a bunch of trike owners around Eau Claire but I'll be damned if you ever get a chance to meet em and talk to em.

One last thing before I end this rambling... Does anyone know where to obtain the interactive state trail map for Android from the WATVA site? The one that is no longer available to view since Trimble Outdoors bought Back Country Navigator. I want to buy BCN but only if I can have the state trail map.

There are some camp sites right on the atv trails about 3 miles from my house. Or Chute Pond campground just north of me but you can not get in and out off Chute pond on an atv. There is also a motel 2 miles north of me with marked atv trails going right through there parking lot.

Someone should start a roll call/anouncemant type thread about this ride. I'm getting pretty fired up as I've got the R out of winter hibernation. Looking foward to shredding with some fellow trike riders.

Yea, i will start a new post and get more details pinned down. But the ride is the 12th of May, I have a huge yard for parking trucks and trailors and am less than a mile of pavment to dirt trails. Every year we have all kinds of people from all over that are susposed to go and it ends up being the main normal group every year that go's, so if others actually show this year it will be great. xfile has some coworkers coming this year also I beleive. I will have my 250R done for sure by then also. I have a complete build thread over at airfoolers if any one wants to cheack it out..

Looking like we won't be joining the fun at this year's opener. Only one rideable trike right now. Wife would kill me if I went solo. Hopefully sometime this season we will make it out if there are more 3WW meets.

Have you Wisconsin riders read about the new B.S. license plate law that was just passed monday? We will all be required to have a plate in addition to the registation stickers we already have. This will be no fun trying to hang on a trike. I guess our state lawmakers have nothing better to do in Madison. Karl

I knew about the new UTV laws. Haven't heard about plates? You sure you heard this is for WI?

https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2011/related/proposals/sb354

looks like we're gonna need them. seems pointless to me, but i guess it's similar to what the dnr reqires for boats and sleds :(

04-08-2012, 12:49 PM
yes it is true, law goes into effect on July 1st of 2012. has to be white with black letters, same letters and #'s as your trail sticker. Also has to be mounted on the back of the atv. there is a state wide DNR meeting tommorrow at 7:oopm, check to see where your local one is. The meeting is a pubic poll on a bunch of things and laws the dnr is thinking of doing. The one that has me is they want to instate a 25mph speed limit on all frozen lakes and water ways. Bye, bye ice racing. I was going to ask on the plate law and ask where it should be on a sport atv, since if you hang it from the grab bar or back of the frame it will block the taillight. i am going to start a post probally tuesday or wednesday with details and what not for the may 12th ride. if half the people show that say they are going it will be the biggest group ride so far.

110 atc
04-08-2012, 02:24 PM
I sized up the rear of my 200s and there is hardly anywhere to mount a plate. I even cut one 4"x7.5" out of .050 6061 aluminum to see how it would work with my atv's. Still a BS law. Looking forward to this ride. Karl

ordered everything I need to button up my trike today. so ill be looking good for the ride as long as I get off work. the plate thing is BS. just another way to make a Buck n write tickets. they should have to send playes out for free to people that are up to date on registration.
