I'm rebuilding my 350X thanks to an exploded case from the previous owner not maintaining the chain. My cylinder is worn, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with rebuild kits from GHDiscountATV on ebay? I looked through old posts, and the last note was from 2008. Anyone used them recently? $220 for a bored & honed cylinder plus matching Wiseco piston kit and gasket set. Not that bad of a deal.
Also, replace all bearings in the engine while it's apart, or just the crankshaft bearings?
Can I have my valves ground? They have recessed edges. .005"-.010" would clean them up. Do they have a coating on the faces, or are they just through-hard?
I haven't read the manual yet. I'm saving that for the assembly.
Don't worry Dirtcrasher, it will end up better than HoosierDaddy's 350x rebuild. Just kidding Rob.:p

I have used G&H before I must say, they did one heck of a great job. They bead blasted the cylinder, bore and honed the jug with a new wiseco piston, and even included a top end gasket set for 220 bucks. Not bad at all. Plus their turn-a-round time isn't bad either. Once I sent them my cylinder, it was about 3 weeks before I got it back. I also reccommend that you have your valves done to ensure the most possible compression.

Glad to hear  Did that thing actually ever run??
If you had an internal explosion, you may wanna scrap the tranny bearings. Whats it add? another 100-150$, cheaper at a Ind. bearing house......
Just check them out, I re use them often as long as there smooth. But, when we have them all torn down for a complete overhaul/powdercoat I chuck them.
Depending on how long your keeping this, you may want to replace the timing chain and guides and get a take off oil pump in there or a 300EX modified.
Hows the clutch?
I would send the head out to be professionally done, I don't touch mine and the valves do get hammered after years of abuse. Good time for stainless steel studs in the head too.
Just my thoughts; I know it's allot of extra stuff but I only like tearing things down and buttoning them up one time, then enjoy 10 years out of them :)

I think Rob sold it non-running. I would have bought it off him and got it going.
I sold my old 350X a few years ago, and have missed it since. I'll probably keep this around for a while unless I stumble on a minty one. I'll check the oil pump specs, and see how she looks. I think it's on original bore, so the pump should be low hour. I never actually rode it. It was running when I bought it, but I brought it home and tore it down right away to fix the chain damage. When I got the engine out, I noticed there was fiberglass on the back seam. I popped that off to reveal a heliarc job. The heat from the weld warped the mating surfaces, so they tried to fix it that way. I have some ebay cases coming my way this week. I'll send the top end out after I get the lower end split and redone. I want to make sure I don't fubar my lower end before I spend the money on the top.
I have a local Carquest machine shop that can redo my valves. I know there are some machines that say don't grind your valves, but I've done it anyways, and they always run fine afterward.
Where do you get stainless studs at? I have to drill out 3 studs, but I work at a machine shop, so it will be pretty easy.

I only paid $200, and figured I stole it. After I get done all I want to do to make it reliable rider, I'll be near $1000-$1400 probably.
