I bought one off Ebay for my '82 and it works great, but when I go to bolt it on it catches on the starter cage and is about 1/4" to 1/2" from being able to bolt it on. Are all the 110 recoils the same?? Mabye it's not even a 110 recoil. The only other thing I can think of is that the cage is the wrong part. I can get pics if anyone could tell by looking at it. Any help would be appreciated.

Not all 110 pull starteres are the same.
It sounds like what you have is a pull starter from a older 90-110 and you are trying to fit it on a newer 110. The 83-84 110's used a pull starter that had a deeper housing. The 1985's used one that was deeper and squared off to the upper back side.

I hope this helps.

That figures.. I should have inquired first, but oh well. Do you happen to know if the housing is the only thing that is different between the different types or is the pulley and internal parts different as well. I'd just have to find the original housing if the guts were the same. Thanks for the help.

The guts are the same. I have seen a couple spacers made that would allow use of the older style pull starter on the newer style. Most were made from plywood. Not the most prettiest thing but very funtional. ;)

Ok thanks that's a big help. I got the original housing here somewhere, but it's been years since I've seen it so I hope it's where I think it might be. On my 185S I had to put washers inside the housing around the bolt holes to get it to work.
