ignore the electrical tape on the wire we had to attach the wires from the old engine on this one because they were cut when the trikes were banned

i wouldnt run it. honestly. its just too pretty. i would buy one of those chrome engine stands that a guy was selling on here and on the shelf it would go. there wont be NOS motors out there for much longer.

I know it's pretty I got the motor for $1400 but I'm from Canada and locally I couldnt find anything I know I thought of not running it I got another motor but it needs engine cases which I bought with the motor but this motor will be newer than most engine out there most people will disagree with what I'm doing putting a nos engine in a trike but im happy with it

Seriously dude, sell this engine to someone who will respect it's rarity, and buy another engine to use as a runner.

Don't waste this engine, who knows how few could be out there.......

I say run it, but care for it. What the hell good is a $1400 paper weight? Its not like he bought Buster Browns Crated 250r and is putting it together. Its just an engine, they pop up on Ebay all the time.

I bet there are more of these things out there than you think. I look for there to be a flood of NOS parts once the ecomomy turns around. Guys that don't need to sell this stuff right now are seeing what prices this stuff is bringing in a bad economy and are just salivating for things to turn around.

I may be wrong, but I guess we'll see.

"Take care of that engine!!!!!!" is all I have to say. Break it in gently, and use all of the recommended fluids for it. It should treat you well, provided you treat it well.

Run that motor...the best way I can think of to pay it the respect of it's historical significance is to put it in a trike and ride it... I couldn't get that in a chassis and kicked over fast enough...nice score

Im with you guys on this one. Run it, but take good care of it. Nice find... Pricey? Yes. But nothing in life worth having comes cheap! Cool thing about it is that you know the whole history of that engine and can properly break it in and mantain it meticulously. I imagine back in the day when everybody "knew" the trikes would continue to be produced for years and years, not as many people took as good care of this stuff as they could have. Totally different scenario now. Those of us who are still loving on the old dogs tend to be alot more meticulous about taking care of these things cuz there are less and less of them out there every day.

Congrats on your find!

Run it! The engine's life will be complete! Win, Win! Video of first start would be cool too. So after all this time..are the seals and everything still good to use?

Well I am new to the three wheeled atv world but I run sport bikes. I have a 225dxk. But I do know that I would love to ride a trike like that one day. Damn it looks like it cooks!

REMEMBER!!!! Keep a close eye on the chain and sprockets condition.... Improper chain tension, alignment, and worn out rear axle bearings are the #1 cause of throwing a chain. This is all preventative maintanance that should never be ingored. Especially with such a engine as that. 250r's are notorious chain throwers if not kept in check.

ya i know first thing i did before i rode it was check all that and bought a case saver, im not risking anything

ya i got the bike with a crappy motor not running for $1000 and thats a steal here and he bought all new plastics before i got it i spent $1400 and now its to the point where it is in my sig and i am in the midst of rebuilding the other motor for an extra or if i find another bike

Sweet for sure...got a similar deal here on a 86 250r engine, not a scratch on the factory paint. Minor running issues (probably from sitting so long) but works great now. Yeah they are rare in Canada, especially up here in bush land, no one had any use for an "R"...I had to buy every part of e-bay and scratch build it. I paid 1k for the engine.

gomer202
07-13-2011, 04:00 PM
ya i find in canada is if you find an R it usually isnt running and they want crazy money for the bikes but you dont find them that often but what was nice with mine was everything was good but the motor so i ended up with the one i got now. the one i got was for sale for 4 weeks and the price was $2000 not running but we got hime down to $1000

I love it. Get a OEM style seat cover done by Mrs. Mosh and a complete decal set and I wouldn't touch a thing.

Thats a loaded question, depends greatly on your geographic area. Might be worth 3 grand in your area, other areas 1500. Best I can say is to scour criagslist and other classifieds in your area and see what others are asking on average. Obviously, if you are seeing one that has been for sale for months and not selling, people in the area just arent willing to pay the asking price

gomer202
07-13-2011, 09:08 PM
i have never seen one for sale in my area EVER so that why im not sure how much i cant get for it i know a 350x though went for $4000 sight unseen

RIDE-RED 250r
07-13-2011, 09:35 PM
Well, that should give you some idea. If its commonplace for a 350x to bring 4000, then a liquid R should bring at least that...

i know it was up for a month and there is only about 2 a year and it was a guy out of province in Alberta but the last one was absolute junk and it went for $1500 and was super junky

this is for a 350x that was junky and expensive and was gone the first day
