why doesn't anyone run nitro in the high performance motors? i hear of some people running alcohol and getting a lot out of the motors.. the nitro rc cars run a mix of nitro, methanol, and oil and they are 2 stroke but is it any different on a bigger motor?

Because its $100+ a gallon after shipping...

Not to mention its extremely explosive, I'm sure you've seen it blow blowers/heads off of top fuel dragsters, I don't know how you position yourself on your trike on the line when your ready to dump the clutch, But I don't have a lot of faith in a plastic gas tank shielding my internal organs from the head when it blows off the top of my motor...:D

Yes i have. Get the alky figured out before you go adding nitro.

RC cars and trucks with engine sizes .12-->.18 usually use 10%-20% nitro content fuel with 8%-16% oil content.

Take that into account to

i dont plan on using anything other than gasoline in my trike. it was more or less just a question. but is methanol the alcohol that people are running?

just my 2 cents nitrometh eats aluminum

nitrometh eats anything, just insane raw power. Don't you need low compression for nitro? it's like a 1.7:1 ratio for air to nitro. So a 200cc engine would need maybe 70cc of nitro?

I tried Nito at approx 10% but my piston lasted about 5 passes then burned up. Scored the walls and basically ate the piston. Will never run it again

Yes methanol is the alky widely used.

Yeah, nitromethane fuel likes the taste of aluminum... Most, if not all, nitro RC engines have steel piston/sleeve and components.

Even if you made an engine for Nitromethane, it'd cost you right around $40 a gallon for the cheap stuff.

Those little 2.5cc engines burn through it really quickly as well. A 250cc motor would eat that 40$ gallon amazingly fast I would imagine.

you might try nitropropane instead. it can be used with gasoline.

Nitro is widely used in the shifterkart and minisprint world, They are using 250cc cr, engines. There really isnt much difference between there engines and ours. It is very possible to use Nitro. It is fairly safe to use %10 once you get everything working properly, once you get to the 40 and 50 % range you start running into major reliability issues.

Just methanol/Alky, you have to "purge" the fuel system after you ride/race, its the same process, you leave that stuff in the enigne it will pitt your crank, piston, intake carb everything. It is the same process to purge after running nitro. (BTW i got a friend with a 4mm banshee running 70% nitro with about 20 pases on it now)

isopropanol Is another chemical to look into, Very similar characteristics to nitro but this cant be detected in alky (hint hint to all you cheaters out there)

Well, not entirely, a gallon of nitro equates to around 2 straight hours of use for them, but yes, a bigger engine would eat it up like candy.
