Hey, I just put my 86 250R all back together, i did the top end on it. Standard bore, new Wiseco piston and rings. BEfore i put the new rings on i compared them to the old ones. they matched up perfectly so i didnt check the ring end gap and put it all together. It fires up and runs fine, the compression seems to be a bit more than before, possibly because that was the original piston and rings i took out or is it because i didnt gap the rings? Can this cause some serious damage? I will take it all apart again, but would rather not.

I have a 250R that I also rebuilt. And as with any rebuild your compression should absolutly be higher than it was before your rebuild. If you had a stock wore out motor before and now it is freshly rebuilt with a Wiseco then the rings are seating to the barrel. Rings should be gapped but I would not take that motor back apart. If anything I was gonna take off the head just to check if the rings butted up against themselves. Cause if they did there will be some grooves in the cylinder forcing me to bore it. Sometimes I just need some reassurance when Im not sure about something.

if not gaped it can sieze the motor! but being a stock jug there is ring wear so the gap is probly good???for me though a its worth a head gasket!!
