well guys i popped the question on another sit and they told me to go with a 200X but i cant for the life of me find one on craigslist but i found an 83 250R freshly rebuilt for $600, it looks pretty bad but if the motor is ok then ill be fine. i dont actually have any money but im sure i could sell my dirt bike and buy it, so can you guys tell me all about the 250R? oh yeah and i ride trails and dont race and the only 3 wheeler iv ridden was a late 80's big red, i would lov to race a 3 wheeler but all the local tracks say NO 3 WHEELERS ALLOWED so racing is not an option, oh crap forgot to tell ya my size lol im about 5'5-5'6 and 160lbs.

here is the c-list link: http://parkersburg.craigslist.org/rvs/2304167197.html

Get the 250r.

Is your dirkbike a 2stroke? If so, you will be able to quickly adapt to the hard hit of the 250r.

You might bored with the 200x and they will cost more to rebuild. I had an 83 250r and i loved it.

it is just the opposite here 200x are every where and the 250r is hard to find.

I'm a 2 stroke fan tried and true, but if its basically your first trike, and especially if your not used to a smoker, I really think you will have much more fun on the 200X for riding trails... I disagree with a lot of the "light switch" power comments that pop up around here (as more often than not they are exaggerated) but still, the learning curve that comes with properly riding a smoker can take some of the fun out of trail riding for someone that's fairly new to both. i would say (if you have a choice) buy a 200X, ride it and have some fun with it and once you master it and it starts to feel slow to you find a 250R, Tri-Z or Tecate and move up the ladder, they are just like dirt bikes, if you have too big of a bike you may spend more time being nervous than actually having fun, and fun is the main reason behind you wanting one in the first place isn't it?

If you are low on funds and have little experience on 3 wheels, i would go with the 200x. They are a real fun machine and great for trail riding. More reliable than the R in my opinion too. Once you get comfortable on that then you can always upgrade to the R in a year or so.

Since you have found and 250R and can't find a 200X I would pick up the 250R. Everyone says upgrade later, but why when there is a good 250R there. You can get a spacer that will give you more low end torque for trail riding. Also 2 stroke are cheaper to rebuild. The only thing I don't like about 2 strokes is re-jetting for winter. Can be a pain if you have big temp fluctuation, frequently. But really if there is a good 250R I would grab it. Really they are both awesome trikes and I would grab either one you can get your hands on.

I sorta agree with Huff. I really like 2-strokes. The 1st 200x I got felt slow right off the bat, a few months later I got a 2-stroke. If you currently have a dirtbike, the 200x may feel sluggish to you. It's definately a beginner 3-wheeler. My son got his at 10 years old (he started on a 2-stroke YT at 6). I wouldn't waste my time with a little 200x, you'll want more grunt soon after. Be patient though, the right trike will find you.

I think that getting a 250r as your first bike depends on the following three aspects:

how responsible of a rider you are
age (to an extent)
if you have ridden a 2-stroke before (experience helps)

I got a 83 250r as my first (running) trike at the age of 20. I knew my limits therefore i never flipped it, crashed it, etc. It also helps if the 250r has a thumb throttle. In my case, i believe they are easier to control. I thought it was a great bike and i had fun on it.

it depends on your riding style and mechanical abilities. While the 4-stroked have less power yes they are also a lot more solid in maintance standpoint. I feel the 2-smokers require more maintenance and tuning than the 4-strokes. You cna do quite a bit to a 4-stroke but again it depends on your abilities.
your riding style also will depend on what you get. if your riding fields and dirt roads then the 250r is fine, if your doing a ton of tight trails then you may find the 200x better as you have more low end grunt for that kind of riding compaired to the 250r you have to wind it up a slight bit more and more slipping the clutch.

I recommend you ride both bikes and get a feel for them before you make a decision.
