so i scored a 86 200s today with a bad engine, then 1 hr later i won a pretty fresh .50 cylinder with matching 12-1 wiseco piston kit on ebay for $10 bucks! it was just listed as nothing special but i seen the big dome and part # threw in my bid in quick and got it$21 with shipping for it all, im going to get a stock good running engine somewhere and put this 12-1 kit in, my plans also call for a uni clamp on filter& cobra exhaust &cam maybe a bigger carb

now my questions are whats the diffrence between a xr200 and 200x and 200s carbs? just a few mm bigger???
has anyone tryed this 12-1 kit on 93 oct in real world testing with what results??? not just guessing but actually done it.... cams i know web is great but expensive and the biker chic cams are messed up but can be made to work, i also know the clutch is the weak link

just building this for fun and limited use, if it blows up or breaks oh well i just want to try building a 200s engine ive done a bunch of 90-110 engine builds and 1 mild 10.25-1 200x and z400 engines

with compression release i think it will be ok and i think real world comp will be 11-1 if lucky but i would like some info from people that have done this type of build on this engine what the results were and what worked best and what not to do!

also i would be interested in buying a used or new big cam, exhaust,a good engine ect for the build if someone has anything pm me with a price thanks for the help

ok for carbs, you should look at a mikuni 25-26mm carb. usually about $45-$55 on ebay.

93 works fine on the 12:1 kit. that's what I run on my 84 200x.

the compression lever will help a ton when trying to start it.

for cam stuff or other parts look ata web cam. anything more than their stage-1 requires rocker hardening ($65 each rocker +shipping both ways)

you got a good deal on the jug that's for sure, now you need to realise that's probebly the extend of your good fortune. The rest is gonna cost. You also need to look at a had rebuild to runn that 12:1. the valves i am pretty sure are gonna need replacing and a valve job will be in order. While your at it, order a set of web springs and retainers for this.

I spend over $900 on my big red performance top end and $500 on the 200x (had a lot of extra stuff I had left over from other prjects I was able to use) on my 84 200x. so expect to spend some $ on the rest of the project. I wouls say probebly another $600-$700 if you do it right. if you get very lucky mayube $400-$500. if you half ass it, $200-$300. Remember you are goign to need to repalce the stock exhaust with a better flowing one as well.

thank you , that is a a lot of the info i wanted to hear, im hoping to find some good used parts to cut the cost down its just kinda a fun build so there will be some half assing involved:naughty:. any thought on best brand gasket kit that will hold up to this? also im gona add a good HD timing chain

the xr230 is a metal gasket. i went through 3 different HGs till i got the metal one. i will never go back. so i recommend that.
you want to repalce the chain, guide and tensioner as well. if you cna find one, get a new oil pump or at least one in mint newish shape. the old oen you got will probelby cause the engine to starve in the upper RPM range when rippign on it and cause you to ruin the top end of the motor. also make sure you use a clean or new oil screen filter. if you cna clean the one you got great! if not, replace it.
