I have an 82 atc185s and been having issues keeping it running the past couple of years. It will run great for about three days then just stop running for a month. It seems to be getting spark and fuel. So I'm wondering if the spark could be affected due to a faulty cdi box. I have replaced the coil to no avail. Should mention that any water seems to be the cause at times for this. Painted and coated everything but still no luck. Must be moisture still getting somewhere it shouldn't. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

im gonna go out on a limb here and say faulty stator? is trailprotrailpro pullstart sealed well? does water get in there?

maybe replace your kill switch, I know if the circuit is closed then it kills the motor, but if it is open it runs, check all wiring for a possibly grounding short as well, before tearing back into the motor

I agree with acid burn 1000%
about the sealing the pullstart.. If its not sealed and gets moisture she will act like that!

The pull start not sealing was definitely an issue. But I have fixed that. Replacing the stator is something I never thought to try though. Thanks. Bought a 200 tri-moto yesterday to have while I tried to get the Honda going. And after a bunch of work and finally getting it running today I think that it may become my daily driver anyways lol. Puts the Honda to shame I'm sad to say

like I said check your wiring, and kill switch, I have a feeling if it is original, that there might be some cracks in the insulation, causing a ground short and also put some dielectric grease in the plug for the cdi keeps the moisure out

I'll do the wiring and kill switch also cause it is all original.
Been my fathers then mine since brand new. Thanks for the suggestions

I know when I got my 81 200 I ended up pulling new wire through the whole thing even went to a heavier gauge , only to find out the kill switch is reversed. So took that one off and wired in a new on correctly

It was the stator ignition coil. 25 bucks and a case of beer later, running great. Thank you guys very much
