Yamaha recoil help

Alright i know I'm doing some thing wrong but not sure what, two different recoils and both of that after pulling on them a few times they lock up with the rope out and will not release until i take them off and loosen up the bolt inside ?


And one of them will only engage the hub some times and others times it just will not hook up

Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like they need grease, also I have found you don't tighten the nut very much, as it will restrict the setup. Also put grease in your hand and run the rope through it I know it's messy, but it will extend the life of your rope and reduce wear on the housing. with greasing the pull starters, grease the shaft in the center, the bottom of the drum where it attaches to the spring. And grease up all the goodies under the drive plate, the one the nut tightens against. It should be a lock nut with the plastic in it to keep it from backing off
