Ok so I found a 1982 Big Red 200e for sale for $300. The guy said it ran until he tried to start it with the electric starter and something happened. He said he thinks that he sheared the flywheel key. Do you think this is most likely what happened? Where can I get a flywheeler key, and is the flywheel pretty easy to remove on these? Are there any other things that could have happened to it, are there any common problems with the starters on these?

Well im not positive what it could be. i was thinking maybe knocked off on one of the gears going to the flywheel. If it is the flywheel they arent to bad to pull off if u have a pully puller. It should have a rewind on it. But shear the flywheel key i myself have nver heard of this happening. Had it happen to a snowmobile of mine placed a new key in and jb welded it in best running vintage sled i had.

Unless the flywheel retaining nut is loose, the flywheel key should never shear on any Honda electric start four stroke engine.
The flywheel is difficult to remove without the correct puller.
A 1982 Big Red should start easy with the recoil starter if it's in good shape.
