Moved up to a 200X !!! GD I am exited!!

121877121876Been messing around with the smaller 90s mostly, picked this up last night off CL. 1983 $300 I have been reading posts here and people seem to like the 200X. Been watching for one for 6 months, I have had it for 12 hours now and I am liking it alot!!!! havent even started it, just doing a visual. Has VG compression, inside of tank looks NEW. Will tear into it a little bit before I start it. Valve clearance, timing chain, clean carb, fuel lines, anything else? Ran last year, (PO says) The rear hubs/rims/tires need to get changed, one side has 3 lugs (3/100) and the other side is 3 (4/130) I think the stock is 4/100 ?

So please make as many coments as possible to help me learn this bike.

Besides DRATV and ebay, where do you guys buy parts??

I will try to do searches to find info and not ask too any newbe questions,

the stock rim size is 8x8 an 4x110 bolt pattern, I have always used www.cheapcycleparts.com for ome parts shipping is cheap to. you will love this bike after a few rides

Looks like a nice start, way nicer condition than my $300 200x when I started.

Run your VIN at http://atcvin.webs.com. You have 83-84 front forks on there, but 85 tank and seat

I better start writing this info down, will help when ordering parts, rear brake master cyl is coroded out, front brake is ok, my list is getting longer by the minute!! Top end might be coming apart, the exh is pretty oily!!

Yea the stock wheel pattern is 4x110 with 8 inch stock rims. Get some 400EX hubs, just the stock 400EX hubs off ebay or something, they are cheap, I got a set for 30 bucks once, they are 4x110 and they will widen the rear just a tad.

Get a little bigger carb to really make it go. Some 20 inch holeshots or razrs and have a blast man. And feel free to ask questions, I'll answer them and I'll try not to ridicule you too bad :D

The tires are Goodyear RUNAMUK ? They look like they would be poor choice for here in Alaska, that and the motor are my big tasks on this one. got the rear master cyl apart and cleaned up, the circlip was welded in there, had to drill from the face to create weak points in the circlip, then drill six little holes from the outside circumference, and use a micro punch to get it out in pieces ... PITA! The last one who had it apart never installed the copper or aluminum banjo washers on the brake line, let a ton of moisture in.

Hmmm...tires for Alaska huh...well I guess it depends on what kind of riding you are going to be doing mainly...Just trails with less than 6 inches of snow and a spattering of mud I'd get some 20x9x10 or 11 holeshots or razrs or something comparable. If you are looking to plow through a lot of snow and mud consistently then you might want to step up to a 22 inch tire with a more aggressive tread pattern.

Does it have the stock exhaust or aftermarket? If stock try to find a Bassani or a DG aftermarket pipe...that will really wake it up and make it sound mean too.

its got somekind of aftermarket pipe, looks ok, but when I go thru the motor, its gettin a paint job. These tires anygood? guy wants $140 CARLISLE STRYKER AT22X11-9

I have those strykers on my 225dx. There great tires for muddy trails. They have real soft lugs so they grip very good. Idk if I'd want them on any kind of sport trike, They was on my Tri-z when I bought it and they kind of sucked the fun out of it because you couldn't slide for crap.

I have 2 first gen X's now in running condition. I forgot how fun they are! One is great - two is better. When my son or dad visit, they have something to ride.

$300 is a great deal - especially in Alaska I would think.

Its been a crazy 24 hrs! First I found a 200X, yes in alaska to boot! And then when I found out that the rear wheels and hubs were screwed up, I stumbled across a set of 20x10-9 razrs on OEM wheels for $50, it will never come together like that again. The tips I have received in this post, hubs, tires, vin, my 85 seats/tank, everything, it been unbelievable what some of you guys know about these bikes, its my 4th 3 wheeler (yes the 70 and 90s count) ... and I think I will stay with this one for a while. Funny thing is, I was looking at it in their yard and I almost blew it off!!
