82 shift lever wont fit

I have an 82 250r with i think an 83 motor and the shift lever just doesn't fit on. Any one know exactly what shift lever will work so it doesn't hit the clutch cover or frame:confused:??

there is a difference between the 81-82 motor and 83-84 motor the shift shafts are different lengths

oh ok ya i figure since i saw the difference in length on mine thanks

so what do i do now that it doesn't fit. Should i look for aftermarket levers or fabricate one???
