Any one know where I can get the tool to hold the cylinder so i can remove the allen bolt at the bottom of the fork, or know a way that I can hold it without the special tool??
I called the dealer, and he said, sorry we dont sell that stuff, try a hardware store???
Any suggestions are appreciated....
Here's a similar tool i found a pic of....

Thanks,

Your dealer sounds like a real @$$hole. That special tool is called out in the factory service manual. I bet it was used on several models of dirtbike too. I doubt a hard ware store is going to have a specialized Kawasaki fork disassembly tool.

I'm not sure what to substitute. I can get the part number out of the service manual later this evening for you.

Would you happen to know the part number for the tool?? I dont have the 86 manual, just the 84-85....

Thanks,

It might be the same as the 84/85. I'll have to see if the 86/87 supplement refers you back to the 84/85 base manual for that tool.

I ran into this problem too when I rebuilt my forks, the inner tube just kept spinning. I used a high speed impact driver with an allen socket and it spun it right out....guesss the inner tube couldnt keep up with the impact driver lol. hope this helps---Joe 8)

The tool can be purchased thru Denniskirk.com. The part number is 28-1973. It is used in combination with a long 3/8" drive extension. It work best for me when I placed the fork tube in a press and applied slight pressure on the extension and tool to hold the inner tube.

You can also try loosening the bolt while the forks are still assembled, meaning with the springs still in. The spring pressure will also help to keep the tube from spinning as well.

The service manual shows a two piece setup: a T-handle wrench with a socket-type adapter tool for the end of it.

Kawasaki Part Name & Number from page 11-4 of 86/87 Factory Service Manual Supplement:

Handle: 57001-183
Adapter: 57001-1057

'84/'85 calls for same T-Handle, but this adapter: 57001-1011
