So you are basically just adding a cotter pin to prevent the possibility of the impeller coming loose from the shaft?

correct! the impeller is melted on the end of the steel shaft that has knurl on the end of it..you spin that shaft your DONE!

if your gonna do it ,, use a brand new steel bit ,, the best one you can get,, if you dont you will drill through the plastic and walk off the side of the shaft with the bit,, thus removeing more of the area that holds the impeller on.. SLOW! and it doesnt need to be big,, you will have to cut the cotter down to size. :)

Great tip to know, my Z is far from being done, but I would hate to have spent tons of time rebuilding it only to miss something like that.

I use stainless steel rollpins - .125 drill, .125 stainless roll pin and trim it with a dremel. Mcmaster has them as well as some Lowes or hardware stores.

Must be drilled ON CENTER! and perpendicular to the shaft.
