Wow - that's going to be a lot of work. Time for a Lifan/Loncin swap. Almost a bolt in.
not mine by good info and inspiration here:
http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?99790-lifan-200cc
I have the same engine in my 200x - I bought a $180 dirtbike with no hours (newbie owner with dirty carb) as a donor. I watch CL every day for a couple of months for a good deal.
120801
I made my own wire harnes because my X did not have one when I got it.
I had to cut the frame crosmember under the engine to clear the drain plug.
I had to cut the sprocket cover to clear the frame.
I use the China carb with bigger jets (110/40) on the X intake with the X airbox + UNI filter and Bassani pipe.
It's OHV instead of OHC but that doesn't seem to matter beacause this engine RIPS. It will smoke my other X all day. I actually put a 13T counter (12T stock) sprocket because it runs out of gear. Very cool.
Of course if $$ is no object, bolt in a CRF 230 engine. That would be fantastic.

That seems odd to me. Is that the actual bike? How do you just borrow a motor? What happened to the Rotax?

no way will that motor fit in a 185! and even if it did - where would you mount the rads?
200XMichigan
03-29-2011, 02:30 PM
It all makes no sense. It would make more sense to try to turn the bike into a trike. Or something. The whole thing confuses me. Finish the Rotax 399 hardtail.

If I'm correct that's the same motor as the mojave. I was looking to do the same swap into a 200x and there's no way it would fit with out a lot of fab work to the frame. The motor is way to tall. Plus you need somewhere to put radiators. It would be a big project. If you got it done it would be quick as the klx250 has twice power.

all he has is the motor if it dont fit ill get the 370 and if that dont fit a 125 or bigger 2 stroke no mater what happens that suckers going to fly the motor was mounted in a trimoto 175 berfore untill a high speed filp killed the frame

before every one says that motor will never fit in a trimoto look at the hackjob it the background the pic is after the crash

i dont know for shure but i think the 200x frame was smaller since the foot peg hight was a little lower and the top tube hight is about the same ill know in about a hour when the motor gets here and for the rads im going to find a shorter tank and have the rads on the front but steering may be a problem if it is i may mount them like a tecate

id use the tank that came off the bike, what size of frame was that again?> a 185 or a 200?.. i picked up a 185S frame tonite, id like to shave the rear fender since it sticks way out in the back and such... i love the look at my 200s oem rear fenders.

i didnt want to cut the frame but i have to now
the motor almost fits in the frame all thats in the way is the chain gard and two motor mounts in the bottom i will have to cut another tube to fit the carb but i will get a tube welded around the carb after i get the motor mounted properly

Why the hell did I just read through 2 1/2 pages of this thread?, WTF is wrong with me? This ain't right. How'd I get sucked into reading all this?, it don't make sense. You actually did it, but it's not real. You should take your time and put the motor in something sporty and do it right, then you can call it a 'build', this is just dumb. Do something better with your ability, this is just stupid.

if i had a 250r or 350x roller i would have used that but i dont so the motors in a 185 i know its retarded to have a motor like that in a hard tail but its in there and it hauls ass so its staying there till i find a better frame

i went for a rip down my street its to high geared it toped out in 5th gear i have no idea how fast i was going but it was deffinently faster than my 350x im going to need some weights mounted to the front end it lifts up way to easy and cornering is just retarded cause the trike is way to light and the axle is way to short

Oh man.. Hopefully you put a couple more bolts into holding the engine in the frame. I want to see video of you making a hard left in 3rd gear to see how far you can sling the motor out the right side.. That would be Epic..

Hell yeah with the engine swap!! Screw all the downers and haters. This is the kind of stuff i like. I love how everyone acts that's the problems they see are permanent. He is build and testing, you change crap as needed. I say find a sprocket that keeps you going with the wheel barely off the ground the whole time. Probably end up doing 100mph or something dumb lol
How well does the front fender clear the radiator at higher speeds? I'm guessing it would flex alot. If it did, i'd go grab some metal and make a custom front fender. A few simple bends and it would be good to go - then polish it or get it chromed out. Always fun to have 1 piece of chrome on your bike :-p
bcredneck
04-01-2011, 07:09 PM
the fender is close but it dont touch and i had to use a 4ft crow bar to get thoues front bolts in so that motors not going anywere do you think i could even ride if it was moving and i dont care if some people dont like it its fast as h*!! and i love it and as rubber salt said im testing and changing things by the time im done there will be rear suspention nothing major just to handle the smaller bumps so it still feels like a hard tail and that tank and seat will not be there veary long and the rest of the motor mounts will be welded plus some braces before the real beating begins

Dude, I think it's gonna be sweet. Of course there's gonna be assholes who claim you ruin things. They've just got their panties in a wad.
How do you guys think the first 250R came about? They took something, and at first it was a POS, but over time it became the '81 R, it didn't start that way.
I think BC would actually be a pretty good designer if given all proper materials and tools to work with, and more than anyone else he tries stuff that nobody else will. Thats pretty damn respectable, and I think it's time to lay off some with the jokes. Let the man work, you never know what the end result will be.

It got sold and i want a shorter swing arm with the same travel as the front because I like riding hardtails but I hate small bumps like washbord and the sharp impact from rocks basically like a bigred250 but smaller and faster since this is a endro motor with long gears I can't stand close gear motors they top out to fast

I love things that are modified... And I have nothing but respect for the guys who do it with detail and care. Not slap whatever junk is laying around into a glob of crap. I believe in fit and finish, and safety. Not hanging crap together with 2 bolts, bungee corded parts and bedframes... I am yet to see anything ever get "finished". For gods sake, if you are going to do hatchet work, dont post it. And if you do decide to post it, expect to get opinions. Good, bad or indifferent. I'm impressed its in there. Is that a 250ES tank? Everyone wants to rag on this trike but come on guys....remember when you were young and broke and wanted to ride? For a cheap trike its pretty cool. And with the proper engine mounts it could actually end up being a good trike when finished. How funny would it be to waste a band new quad with something that looked like that. Everyone said it couldn't be done, and he did it, that counts for something in my book.
