Klemm?/JP Racing? Aluminum tank, extended axle, full DG exhaust, DG? ported cylinder, etc...

Had some kind of big bore kit (haven't measured it yet) cylinder is a bit rusty, Ill have to see if it cleans up enough to be salvageable or not, piston burnt through, crank feels ok, head is missing in action, clutch cover has been welded but has what appears to be a fairly new kicker on it...

Looks like another project added to the list... anybody have a head laying around or a good cylinder?

Can something that's been hogged out that far be re-sleeved?

Nice find Huff. At one time that was a hot machine, very cool. Lotta work, but man, if those are anything like a Tecate parts find, you hit pay dirt. Probably more rare than the KXT parts, but cool old racer. Don't you have enough projects?......Better divie up some of those Tecate parts to help finance it (lol).

that`s like an old-school smorgasboard of aftermarket goodies from the era of parachute pants and checkered Vans

great score....I`ll bet you traded a Pez dispenser for that.....or gave like $50.....YOU STOLE IT DIDN`T YA?.....I`m sure the price makes the score that much more beautiful, doesn`t it?

Raffa,
I don't have a bore gauge, but best I can tell from my mic the bore is 80.5mm and the piston is 80.25 (its a cheap mic though) that should put it somewhere in the 346cc range, those spots on the top of the piston are burn holes, I'm headed back out to the garage after dinner to clean up the swinger and see what it is for sure but with all the grunge on it, it looks stock

I'd bet money that is an old RM370 sleeve and piston in that cylinder. LonesomeTri-Z has a similar setup and the bore diameter is the same from what I remember.

Anyone have any more ideas what the piston might be? I've been searching 80mm pistons and have yet to find something that looks close enough to measure up. The RM370 (there are a few on ebay) looks a bit different (but then I haven't fully measured it yet) some of the watercraft pistons look a bit closer as does the old YZ/DT 360's I'll get it all measured up tonight and see if I can get the cylinder cleaned up...

That is what I was thinking. Could be one of those myth stroker big bores we have never seen yet.
But for it to be a 300cc kit that should put the bore between 70-72mm with a stock crank. Never saw no 80 mm sleeve..WOW

Good score Huffie..The top mount tank is worth a small fortune alone.

The setup that LonesomeTriZ has uses a highly modified RM370 sleeve (The original RMcylinder were piston port and did not have reeds in the intake). And it also uses a huge stroke crank, I can't remember what it is. Its been 6-7 years since I seen the thing, but it looked very very similar to this.

Post some pics from the bottom of that thing too!

Also I believe the Yamaha GP1300R PWC uses a piston in that same diameter range if you have trouble finding something to put back in it.

Been out of town, but here is a little bit of an update, the cylinder cleaned up pretty well but not perfect (thinking of looking into having it nikasiled after/if I find a good piston as there surely isn't enough room for a bore...

I think this may be the culprit:

Also found "JW" engraved under the intake as well as a light engraving/scratching of what looks like "prokopis"

I forgot to tell you harry said,,,, When the TriZs came out, I already had started Klemm Research...our big bore ran an 80mm piston... I'm guessing this was one that Mark Dooly would have built for DG.

Ill ask him if JW rings a bell..

Mr Klemm says .. it's likely Jim Weidler who occationly helped his brother Steve do grinding at DG during those years.

thats the best I can do for ya,,:beer

Can you post some pics of the bottom end? Does it look like they had to bore the bottom also? Is there anyone else that would have first hand knowledge of how these engines were modified then?

BUMP! What happen to this!

I'm still looking for a piston, the best candidate I've found is the "ohlins 360 YZ kit", in the meantime I'll throw this out there, if anyone has a good stock (or close to it) Tri-Z motor they want to trade for the cylinder and machined bottom end, I'd be interested in it....
