one of the atc's was a dirtbike CONVERTED into an atc
NOS, is that one where you saw two guys wreck and one guy died. And you were going to go the next day and offer to take the busted trike off the hands of the deceased's relatives???
Or am I thinking of someone else? If it was you, what happened to the conversion?
My R had what I thought was a badly bent front end when I got it. Boy was I wrong.

i thought all would remember his post about this ,,, wow !
the fella who owned the 350x lived and the fella that had the converted bike died.
i was wondering why the header pipe was wrapped in something like asbestos or what ever it is. i would'nt think it be very good for the heat disapation. kinda hold it in + gotta go somewhere like back up the pipe to the head,,,
well you got to ride it ! that's gotta be a good feeling ! now i don't recall what you paid for it ,,, how much ???

Jeb- yes i was going to do that (ask about buying it) but i didnt. My dad found it through a friend of his. i have no idea what happened to the other one. i asked but the guy said that there family had split up from this werck and they no longer talk to each other. the forks straightned up perty good but they dont go up and down just kinda stay in the up position.
jeswinehart- the head pipe is wraped because there is no heat guard. i have see many people do this around here. they will just wrap it until the sclincer. its not suposto give you any hores power just save your leeg. i dono ive never riden one with it on it. i dotn know about it being a good feeling. kinda diffrent knowing that it had killed somone but i also think its not the guy on the 350's fault. it cost us $300

damn good deal, even though it is trashed, i would say that you still got a good deal, it must have power look at you ripping shiit up, and if it runs, then just the engine is worth $300

i'll pass along something i thought up ( all by my self - lol) to you NOS_350X ,,, although i am sure i ain't the first human to do it.
i run a after market header coupled to a stock exhaust ( what i had to work with ). it didn't have the mounting studs on it for a stock heat sheild.
i used what i call pipe stand offs for my heat sheild to header mounts.
allows you to secure to a round pipe + gives you a threaded rod to attach the heat sheid. by no means a bolt on thing but cheap + it filled up a couple of hours of quility garage time plus turns out well ( done it twice on x's). i picked up my "pipe stand off's" at a eletrical wholesaler.
you will have a very nice x in time i am sure ,,, heck, it ain't too bad now ! it's alive ) !!!

84atc- the engine was just rebuilt (top and bottom) and not even broke in before the wreck so i think i could easly get $300 for it.
jeswinehart- i'm having trouble figuring out what your talking about. you have pics? are you talking about just mounting a stock heat sheald to an aftermarket headpipe?

you should be able to find forks and a gas tank on ebay. you can still get a extra capacity plstic tank for the 350x's it holds 4 gallons. with that stuff it'll be a real nice bike since the engine is rebiult.

here is what i used to secure my stock heat sheild to a after market header that don't have mounting studs. it takes some time getting the right combo of bolts and securing but works very well when in place + tightened down. i've done 2 machines using these clamps.

One of my friends bought a 250R from a guy that broke his neck on it and now he's a quadrapoligic. I call the bike Christine and refuse to ride it. Your bike takes the cake! Geesh.

Actually, you really don't want the heat to disapate. Keeping the heat in the pipe makes the exhaust gasses hotter. Hotter gasses flow at higher velocities so by wrapping the pipes and keeping the heat in, the exhaust gasses flow better. This is one reason why people that drag race wrap their headers .
