I was just wondering what year the changes were made. I did not actually know they were different until I got my last 2 down to sell and then realized one has a deeper set of guts. In my area the most common trikes I usually get a hold of are honda atc 90 110 125m and 185/200's. I have not parted many atc 70's out. Which is why i was not aware of the changes.

Thanks in advance.

they went to a 4 speed engine in 82 and that is when they changed the recoil.

I guess the Question is even though they are different, will they all fit??

if you put a deep one on a 3 speed (81 or older) you will have to space the cage away from the flywheel. i have seen people make spacers for the shallow recoil to fit the 4 speed but is much harder to do.

Digging this old thread up because I have 5 or 6 recoils I am in the process of rebuilding and I want to know exactly what I have. Three are deeper and 2 are shallow. I think the black pulley is different somehow. Maybe it is to the early 73-74 models? It seems to be a little smaller. Any input is appreciated.
By the way, The crazy looking thing you see at the bottom is a tool to rewind the main spring. I had to extend it to get it over the shaft of the 185/200 recoils but it works and is a stress saver for sure.
