Having a problem with the idle on my 225.

I originally thought it to be a carb/throttle cable issue, but its still there after rebuilding carb and replacing throttle cable.

When I try to adjust the throttle, I get it right where it sounds about right and it idles fine. The problem comes in when I hit the throttle the first time. The idle raises too high and when I adjust it back down it doesn't idle correctly and will shut off if I dont apply throttle or adjust cable to raise throttle.

Did I explain that well enough? Any ideas?

I have the same issue right now. I'm thinking it is choke issue. Either the cable is sticking or the plunger in the carb is sticking. I had the same issue with my raptor a few years ago and it ended up being the carb cable and slide would go out but not back down until it got hot on its own. I'm thinking of starting there cuz my dx is sort of doing the same thing. Its just a thought, I've had it happen on all my cable choked toys. water x metal = corosion

I follow brd's advise first, if the problem isn't there, then make the intake manifold is sealed up well. Air leaks from the carb to engine can cause the idle to do wierd stuff. Then make your exhaust isn't loose. Friend's got a wrecked bike with a loose exhaust(studs ripped and stripped) and it doesn't want to idle with a crap, it runs ok, but not right, never will be right... I don't care to much - it's a lifan lol.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I did that all day yesterday. I few beers helped clear my mind at the end of the day and I decided to read th manual today.

I found that the bike was running way to rich. I pulled the carb apart one final time, blew everything out well, checked every opening and jet really well, and readjusted everything. Put the carb back together, same idle issue.

I removed the pilot jet and move it up a notch, still same issue. I continued stepping it up and rechecking until I reached the leanest adjustment. Bike idles and runs like new.

Ahhh... time to ride finally.

Glad you figured it out. I played with mine and it was the choke sticking like I thought. Blasted alot of green trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro out it and it running perfect. I saw the pics of your dx it look great. I have a 85 with white bros e-series and 4in spacers. What front tire are you running? I dont reconize it and I need to replace mine. Good job

Thanks, glad you worked your issue out. Where did you get the 4 in spacers? I have the stock front tire on right now, but I have a 22x11x8 Kenda Max on the way. Got any pics of yours?
