i have an 85 250r i have a 145 main and the needle and slow jets are in the factory position i seem to be having some issues in the midrange of the powerband. My bike seems to be starving for fuel in this area. It seems though once i get through the midrange and to wot that it clears up but i can tell its just not running like it should. it almost feels as if im hitting the rev limit or its cutting out. any ideas? also my bike has a high flow air filter, is bored .020, has a fmf fatty pipe and fmf silencer but other than that its stock. im wondering if i should upgrade to a bigger carb or better reeds?

The stock 85 round slide carb was notorious for leaking fuel up around the main jet at part throttle and causing them to have a rich burble that had to be overcome.

IMO, throw the 85 carb in the parts bin, and get a 86 carb, or even better yeat a PWK 38. I will never run a factory 85 carb. They suck.

Just an FYI. I am running a PJ 36 off a older CR250/CR125 on one of our 250R's. It was a pain to get jetted correctly.
Maybe it is just that particular carb I have, but it was not easy to get set-up for some reason.
I would really suggest a PWK 38 if the price fits your budget. I really do not like the idle speed adjustment in the choke knob set-up the PJ series uses. They tend to get worn out and cause erratic idle issues. (at least that one I have does)
The PWK uses a screw on the side of the body. The PWK just performs better overall.
But that is my personal preference, and I have PJ's on other R's that give me no issues.
If I recall correctly, you have to run a different cable for the PWK series also.

well i may wait and get the pwk then since it seems to be the best
