alright guys here it goes, first of all the thing will idle good, when u give it throttle it dies,i have cleaned carb numerous of times, but the plug is wet when i pull it out, which makes no sense to me. i would think it would flood out at idle as wet as it is. but then out of nowhere i can give it gas and it will rev fine, but it smokes really bad. it also has set for a coulpe of years, so i think mabye its a combination between vavles, carb,or possibley rings to..not sure let me know.

thats what i was thinking, buti am gonna do a compression test on it first before i go tearing into it..dont know what it should be running at do you?

They run strong with 90psi. A new bore should be around 120-186(manual says 186 lol)
is the plug covered in gas or oil? sounds like oil.. If it's sat around for years and has old gas, it will idle but die when you give it gas, old gas sucks. It can also smoke on old gas.

After i rebuilt the top end on mine, it runs really well. New bore and resurfaced the head and cylinder. Also new valves and 1 valve guide.

But, if it idles, it has compression to run. I say make sure your carb is set right, the needle needs to be in the middle. Fuel screw (off the top of my head) i believe is 1 1/4 turns out. A fouled plug will also cause similar issues, book says ngk b7es. Make sure your coil is grounded well, they like to rust under 'em.

When adjusting everything, I'd go ahead and run the trike over, give it a nice tune up. New oil(motorcycle oil!) manual says 10w 40. Valve clearances need to be set. .05 for intake and .07 for exhaust.

If you do need to give it a hone job and rings. STAY AWAY from the cheap 20$ set. I made that mistake and its only been about 3 months and its starting to smoke badly again.

me neither ,i have cleaned that dam carb to many times, wnt over the bike over and over and everything is in good shape but i know its something small that im missing. this bike is a 1 ownwer, older man bought it new in 83' and never had no problems out of it, until he let it sit for a couple of years, it has always been in climate controlled garage so this bike has very very little rust or corrission just lots of dust..lol. just dont know the problem and its eating at my brain

just a thought but have you checked your float level and on the jets can you see through the tiny hole through them and the main needle on the slide to see if its in the right groove? also might check for air leaks at the intake and areas that are rubber.

Sounds like the fuel pump. I've had the same simptons on my KLT turns out it was the fuel pump.

Try chaning the needle clip position, put the clip on the middle of the needle. up to 1/4 throttle is controlled by your pilot jet. After than, your needle starts to effect it until full throttle, then it's all main jet.

Sounds like your needle may be off, or the wrong main jet was put in there.

Is your air filter dirty at all? if it cant pull enough air, it will pull TONS of gas, and flood it till it dies. No filter causes les vacuum on the jets and it runs lean.

Is the smoke white or black?

my fuel pump is working great, but i may have found part of problem my CDI unit is half fried.. so im am hoping it will fix the problem atleasst most of it. most of trailprotrailpro atv or atc the cdi is not supossed to come apart, but in this case the center pulled right out and the sauders and capicters were broke and burnt,so therfore it was just getting enough fire to idle i guess? we will see after 140.00 $$ later-brand new with 1yr warrenty
