hello all, i just picked up this 83 225dx the other day, the seller told me he had it running. its all torn appart and needs to be put back together ie rear end, plastics gas tank..... it was left outside with spark plugg in,, and its missing the pull starter. i wanted to see if i could roll it over using a pry bar, i left 1/2 quart of oil ontop of the piston over nite and..its HARD to turn the motor over, i can bearly budge it. do you think it could be blown or... maybe a stuck ring? it has sat for some time now.. i pulled plug out and it was frosted over..

Definatly time to tear it open and do a complete inspection / overhaul to all that needs done. A guy could never expect something like this to become unstuck by penetrating oil or whatever, then magically run at all. Is the wheeler in decent condition otherwise, or would it be better to part it out or buy another similar machine and use it for parts? A bike missing a lot of things or needing a lot of small parts replaced adds up real quick, believe me. Good luck with whatever you decide, and dont forget to check out the manual for this machine!

the bike looks good, solid frame, 3 sets of fenders....rear end is clean and the engine looks surprisingly clean other than its hard to turn it over... i have been looking around my area for a parts machine but NOBODY has one lol... i guess there rare in these parts. i know a moto4 ATV engine looks identicle to this one... maybe thay would be interchangeable?

Are you trying to turn it over with the spark plug in it? Take it out and oil up the top of the piston and keep working with it till it loosens up. I bought a 200 the same way one time it was filled up with water and didnt have a plug in it kept working with it now it starts first pull and dosent smoke one bit which is amazing.

SHE ISNT SEIZED WHOO!!! i removed the engine from frame and brought it into the warm shed... took the timing chain cover off and removed cam sproket, put prybar into the pull starter cup and pryed..nothing, so i thought its the bottom end, put cam sproket back on+ timing chain. so next i removed the bolt that holds the pull starter cup and removed the cup, looked inside couldnt see anything... put starter cup back on and just for the heck i put the pry bar on and she turned over with easy! i did it a few more times and it seems to have LOTS of compresssion, i put bolt back in the starter cup and spun it around and arund over and over and its easy with the pry bar but you cannot turn it over by hand (good) ...i guess over the half hour period of time, what ever snow and ice that was inside melted? anyways she'll be a runner now WOOOOOOT!!!!!!

In my personal opinion you should take the valves off to check them and to check the top of the piston, still so you can check for debris, and any moisture damage before trying to get it to run. It would be a shame that shortly after you fired it up and had some combustion going through it that some thing gets stuck and welds the piston to a valve or anything. I just bought a gasket set for under 40$ on ebay which I'll be using on my parts trike to build up a new trike

good idea Muthey! i'll let it sit in the shed with the heater on to dry it out..... then probably flush the engine out with a couple oil changes.
