it started a few weeks ago. i was riding around on my 225dr, for about an hour. i was riding mostly uphill and slow, so the motor was getting hot, and i was running low on fuel (forgot to fill up) so i take a shortcut home, and by my luck, i run into the field that i have to cross. it is a square 40 acres, and it was freshly plowed and disced. well i get to the middle, and have to go around a mud hole. i get stuck in soft mud, but get out. im still heading south toward my house. i hit this patch of very powdery dirt. it was about a foot deep. so im in second, and im revving to keep the momentum up. as im goin along, i hear a strange noise. one of my valves had a big clearance so it ticks, but this was different. it sounded as the rockers were hitting the head. it freaked me out. so i stop and let the motor cool. it doesn't happen again. well im out hauling apple bins around. im toward finishing, and im in second, i wanted to punch the motor to clean it out. well it happens again. then im thinking, could it be the cam jumping in the housing, since it only happens when the motor is real hot?

Better get it apart before you lose the whole motor. Could be timing chain or any related component but your gonna have to tear it down.

Yea, my friend's XR250 started doing that when we we're on a ride, and when we got to the top of a big ass hill, it just died, and he couldnt kick it over after that. Im thinking that the piston welded, but i could be wrong.
