I need to rebuild the forks on my 86 Z. I need new fork seals, dust covers and fork boots. Where's the best place to get these parts from? I see Ebay has fork boots in red for about $25. I was also thinking of getting the Progressive springs from Dennis Kirk. How hard of a job is this rebuild going to be? Also what weight oil should I use? I weigh 250lbs. Thanks.

I just bought a set of yamaha oem fork seals for my 86 forks for $14.00 shipped off of ebay. I just did a search on the part #3XV-23145-00-00 and found that the 87-88 TZR250 use the same seals. I think this guy still has a set of them, offer him $6.00 each and he will take it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-YAMAHA-TZR250-TZR-250-FORK-SEAL-/200562622440?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb276bfe8. Hope this helps, they are like $9.89 each from cheapcycleparts.

There's alot of bikes seals that will work,, just rebuilt mine and used rm 80 fork seals! 2001 and under years work, as far as oil im 210 and used tranny fluid! If you do a search you will find alot of people use transmission fluid!!
JUST SEEN ITS A 86 THESE SEALS WILL NOT WORK ON YOU TRIKE! Mine is a 85 your fork tubes are bigger, there sould be a cross reference guide on google to find what will work for the 86

Are the progressive springs worth getting? And do the 85 and 86 use the same size fork boots?

85 and 86 are different diameters, 86 is larger.

Same part number as the 250R 11-1127; I searched that number and paid 54$............
Otherwise they range 75-90$.
