I have heard there are oiling issues on the 350x. I can't find details on it though. What is the problem, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

The problems are, people running them low on oil and not changing oil regularly.

The oil pump pickup on the 86 was improved. The 85 was said to have a potential circulation issue when riding along the side of inclines for prolonged periods of time.

I don't know. I think improved means relocated. I saw it in another thread a while back. Dirtcrasher may know. He is one of the most knowledgeable people on this forum especially with motors.

I change after every good ride, every other if im just toying around. My one buddy one the other hand changes once a year, at the begining of the season and just add oil along the way......he also smokes like a freight train

I have had 85 had 86 right main cases side by side on my work bench and without measuring you can't really see a difference In the oil pickup area. I'm not saying that there isn't a difference, just that it's not big enough to see at a glance.
I have used both 85 and 86 bottom ends since the 90s and I can tell you that if you keep the oil full and change it often you will never see a problem. Just because you have a 86 bottom end don't think that your safe from regular oil changes and keeping it filled.
Besides keeping the oil changed and full (common sense) the other 2 main reasons these motors get a bad rap is guys putting the oil filters on backwards (common sense) and scored oil pumps. Oil pumps do and will ware out and if you don't open yours up you'll never know till it's too late.
