ok got the new trike home today the kick-starter has little to no resistance
pull started it with my quad and it did start up but was blowing copious amounts of smoke out, the kicker does have spark but it just feels like theres no compression
no bad noises from the case or piston
and theres a bit of oil leaking out the top end... so what do ya guys think

Time for a bore, piston, and a set of rings. I once bought a 200s that just needed the carb cleaned to run. when I got it going It smoked like a Jamaican barbecue.

Sounds like you bought a headache unless the thing was cheap

Time to refresh the top end. I haven't bought a trike yet that didn't need it. I bought my 200x smoking and it was missing a chunk of the piston skirt but still ran ok lol. My wife asked why do all 3 wheelers smoke? I say well the ones I buy smoke because they are OLD and cheaper that way!

smoke is blue which is oil i was really wondering if it just needs new rings or the top end gasket
i only payed 200 for it and i knew it was going to be a project i've just never done engine work on an atv before

If you've done any engine work its all the same as long as you can read the manual and follow the steps. Once you get it apart you can have the piston and cylinder measured to know if you can just use rings and a hone, or if you'll need to re-bored and get a new piston and rings. Not really much more work either way. Sometimes its real obvious when you see the piston and cylinder, sometimes they are badly scored.

yea, you got a trashed top end. before you even order any parts, take the motor out and dissabmle the top end first. if it looks bad, take the bottom end appart except you shoudl not have to split the cases at this time. inspect the clutchs oil pump, bearings, seals and more. it coudl be just a top end and oil pump or the engine was ran low on oil and is trashed. no point spending $ till you know what ya got. If motor is trash, get a good running used one online or consider a "Lifan" OHC 200cc engine. they had simular power to the 200x and are electric start! they also have reverse!!!!!! You can get them for about $500 with harness and electrical.
if you want to remain honda, get a good used motor from someone on here you can trust. DC ands Billy can probebly point you to the right people.
