I am looking to get a 250cc engine from an sx quad. Will this be compatible for a swap with my 250sx trike motor?

thanks guys

I guess the trx250 is also called the trx250sx ?

there is no 250SX quad. the top link you pasted is a 250X. the bottom one is just a TRX250ES

there is a 250sx a 250es and a trx250 they are all the same motor but don't mistake the trx250r or 250x as the plain trx250

Right on, that is good news for me ! I wont be 100% sure when I get the motor but that is part of the adventure !!

the 200sx was chain drive 86-88, before that it was shaft I believe. The TRX 250 was the same motor, utility, shaft drive. The 250x is a chain drive sport quad, where the engine is almost the same as a 300ex.

the 200sx was only chain as far as I know basicly honda took a 200m motor and stuck it in a 4 wheeler

I feel safe in knowing about the chain drive.I am buying it off someone who has been using in for parts for his 250sx, so I assume he would have noticed it was chain drivin .

So I was talking about the engine I was picking up that was off an sx Quad. I got back across the boarder with it no problems. To me it looks like a normal 250sx motor.

Here are some pics, please let me know if you see anything indicating that it is not your typical 250sx engine. The cylinder is the normal 246cc

I have not hooked it up to see if it is running I am just cleaning it off. I took off the little caps at the top and I see oil so its good. I also cleaned them to make them shiny.

Its a ES motor... SX motors were black, ES is silver... Same motor, different color.

I know the gearing is different between the SX and the ES, are those gears this this part of the motor or are they in the back at the differential ?

Sometimes both, I've counted the teeth.

You won't lose top speed or notice much change if any...........

Right on. Any suggestions on what I should do previous to installing it in my bike ? I will do an oil change, but aside from that, anything much to do ? If I take off a casing I would need to put on a new gasket kit so I assume I should just plug in and see if it works ?

I would wait until it's in the SX to change the oil...not before. Also, it's a great time to check the valve clearances...it's a bit of a pain after it's in the frame....and you have o-rings sealing the inspection covers, so there's a good chance they'll be fine.
