hey guys, i want to get a 250r, proley an 85 or an 86. i was told no to cause you have to rebuild them after like 20 to 25 hours. i think hes full of bull but if it was a decent rebuild, how long would it last, leaving it stock-ish?

when i bought mine 3 years ago blown up it was still on the standard bore. i have a buddy that is the same. depends on how much you ride and how well its tuned and your mixture but i will last longer than 25 hours

If its re-built in pretty much stock form it should last years!....there is many factors that will increase and decrease the life on your engine. I have an 86 250r that i ride all the time, its been on the same piston for 4 years and still has 175 psi compression. I have an 85 that is a drag bike with many modifications that has about 25 hours on it in total and has had 7 pistons. ( a few tuning issuses and metled pistons LOL) All depends on what you do with it.

They are one of the most reliable and long lasting motors I've ever seen.......
Many are still on the stock crank and bore.

According to the information that i have gathered, I believe that my 85 250r is still on the stock bore and piston.
If it's lasted that long, i don't see why it can't last a few more years.
Spark plug is a nice roasted marshmallow brown too.

My buddy has a 85 250r and the piston just died due to poor jetting on his part . Stock piston and bore ! I said it's a 85 folks , thats 25 years not 25 hours . . . . . . lol

My 86 has never been opened up. I have rode beside it since 89 and owned it since 2000. It has been rode normal and well maintaned. Good oil, air filters, chains and sprockets, and they will reward you.
