Well I have been told that the 400ex carb will bolt right up in place of the stock 350x carb... well I am having problems getting the rear intake boot (from airbox to carb) on the 400ex carb!!!!! For those of you that have done this swap please help me out here!

eMost people either use a heat gun or torch to warm the boot making it easier to stretch and some have used boiling water. I personally just used brute strength with a little dish soap to make it slide on. It's tricky but do-able.

Use a heat gun and warm it up evenly.

I put it in boiling water, still wants to slide off. I already took the 400ex carb off and am going to ditch that plan! Anyone wanna buy a brand new 400ex carb?

$100 shipped, it came off a 2004 & was never used, I used it for 5 minutes trying to fire it up, so it has only had a small amount of 100 oct. fuel in it!

I spoke to a guy I rode with 2 weeks ago , he had a 350x with the 400 carb and he said it wast easy to get it to fit, he told me your gonna have to use the carb mount from either the 400 or 450 I can't remember which one , but he said that he had to shave down the boot a little bit to make it fit ,and he used a heavy duty clamp.

Hope it helps

Use a heat gun to soften the intake boot to slip it over the carb.

For the 400ex carb to fit to the 350x, I used a 300ex intake boot, and it bolts up real slick just like the 350x boot. It was easier for me to fit the 350x airbox to carb boot than the 40ex carb to the 350x intake boot. But some things people find easy, I find hard, so I'm a poor judge on what is easy and what is hard.

I haven't had a chance to run the 350x with the new carb on it yet, but the carb is superior to the 350x carb. It does have some amount of adjustability to it. Also there are more parts and mods since the 400ex ran for several years longer than the 350x. I think they are just basically a generation newer than the 350x carbs in their day. I had originally installed an FCR carb with a custom intake on the 350x, but pulled it for install on another little project I have going. The FCR carb is the newest generation carb on the block right now. Tons of mods available for those. I think the carb may have been too much for my mild 350x engine, but I think it'll be just right for what's coming down the pike....The Monster!
