I have a 1983 yamaha 225dx i use to have to put a hair dryer on the carb so it would start. Now when i try to start it with or without it the plug is dry. But if i put gas down the spark plug hole it will run and start fine. i have a fuel filter on it with a new petcock so there is no dirt getting in there. the only thing i could think of is the intake boot right? or what else could be making it do this

Try cleanign your carb? if your Flushing gas down Spark hole and it fires fine.. Sounds like your not getting gas.. Check to see your jets are not clogged..

I would look to see if the float needle is stuck most people don't realize that on this mikuni carb it has a rubber sealing tip on it , and if it is wore too much it will get stuck, or not seal

Rebuild your carb, you'll be running perfectly again

ok i found out what it was at the head were the boot from the carb meets there was a crack a knife could fit in it all the way around it. i replaced the boot now it starts no matter how cold
